What does means are halved mean?

I will be claiming Jobseeker's allowance for myself and was going to claim for my wife as an adult dependant. Payment would be €204.30+€135.60=€339.90

My wife has now been offered a FAS course.

How will this effect my JA?
Looking up on welfare.ie and found that it states that my "means are halved" if my wife is on a FAS course.

From what I can make out this means I wouldn't be able to claim my wife as a dependant and her payment will reduce what I will get i.e

    She will get €204.30.
    I will get €339.90-€204.30=€135.60?

    Is this correct?
I'm still stumped by what they mean by "means are halved"!

No I think it means that your wife's income from her FÁS Training Course is considered means for the purpose of your claim, and this means is halved.

    Meaning:

    €204.30+€135.60=€339.90-102.15=€237.75.

    I think anyway, not certain.

From what I have read, it would seem to depend on what other payment your wife is getting apart from the FAS payment, if any...
It is a bit confusing, so give them a call, you will find them very understanding and will explain it clearly...

Thanks for the info. Nice to know that it's not just me that's confused ;-)

My wife's course is not now start until the new year and as I will be eligible for JB in 2010 the "halving of means" won't apply
