I'm a politics student in UCC , and would be interested in viewing a court case in Cork Courthouse. Does anyone know what the story is with doing this, is there some timetable or something and a public gallery of some sort that I can just walk into?
    any info is appreciated, cheers.

As far as I can remember going back about 3years, we just walked in just find out off the clerk what time trials are starting, you dont want walk in 1/2 ways. there are public galleries, just watch where everyone goes.
Oh and don't go to any courtroom that has the sign 'in camera' outside, means it's private usually cases involving minors

all courts with the exception of family law and rape and some sex assault cases are held in public...so anyone can walk in sit down and listen.

if you see "in camera" outside the door - dont go in.

I did Jury Duty in May in the courthouse. As far as i can remember anyone is free to just walk in to the public gallery to listen to a case. We just had to sit in the gallery to wait for selection for a trial, there was more than just the jury panel sitting there! Even saw a few members of the Simon community, they were quckly escorted out! Just turn up and take a seat. I think you are worried about being kicked out, nobody will even know or care you are there!

A few of us used to go there when we were on the hop from school and were too broke to do anything else. It always made me laugh that with all the Gardai around the court, not one would ask 5 school boys what they were doing in the courthouse during school hours, We even used to have our sandwitches at the back of the courtroom.:D
