I finished in Cork last year studying filmmaking, learned a great deal, set -up a small prodution company, based in CLonakilty, Co.Cork( place does rock, reference to the place being mentioned earlier) presently working on pre-production of a feature for 8 months now, requires lots of special fx make-up, so we thought ourselves, using P.G.G (prosthetic Grade Galatin), foam latex and latex prosthetics for FX, VERY TIME CONSUMING,if anyone around the Cork area, is interested in helping, e-mail deeconproductions@gmail.com, or check out http://trendkiller.tigblog.org. Using Final Cut Pro 5, Shake, FX Home Visionlab etc etc, own all equipment,

Was referred by an RTE producer for the position of a Location Manager for a French Arthouse Feature film being shot in Bantry, two weeks prep at end of July, and 6 Day shooting week for three weeks at start of August. Wages were union standard, but had to turn it down due to lack of familiarity of the Bantry area, i wouldn't have been 100% confident of completing the role and risking the production failing.

Also looking for actors for numerous horror shorts in the pipeline and for the feature.

    Morning,

Em, I'm a bit of a jack of all trades. I've worked on shorts, features, music videos and docs. I've been everything from writer to director to boom op and p.a.. I've made two films from my own script and had two scripts turned in to shorts. My films we're both fairly serious so the next one has to be a comedy, nature demands it! eh, think thats it for the time being.

Oh, didn't study film, did a filmbase course.

    Cheers.

I got a job working as a devlopement executive at a prod company in dublin - its unpaid and i did it on the dole since january but i had to get a paying job in the meantime. In terms of how to get docos made in Ireland England and Europe its been great - i got about 15 doco treatments in for the RTE and TG4 deadlines recently so now its a waiting game. Its all about getting the idea on a page in its purest form and then turning it into a TV show the broadcasters can market - and that doesnt mean you have to sell out - not always anyway. Make it event tv, a returning series, stick someone famous in as suggested presenter, make it sound like the most topical idea of the day. And always budget it to the maximum that they offer.

RBY5 Where about are you based - I wrote a script about 2 years ago i think has a bit of potential but my mates disagree - Ill probably never get a chance to do it, but if you want to read a synopsis, i can get it over to you.

I'm only new to boards.ie, I've been living in a cave for the last couple of decades.

I'm only recently gotten into T.V. production as a runner. I've worked on 5 gigs, (see? got the terminology already), so far. I don't know what I want to end up doing in this industry, at the moment I'm happy doing runner. It's better than sitting on my backside all day anyway. Have had a problem with jobs in the past insofar as they tend to lose their shine and interest after a month or two. this industry seems to have enough variety, even from production to production, for me to hopefully stay long-term.

I would be interested in any advice anyone has, or reasons why they chose the particular path they did. Bearing in mind that 1. I'm still not au fait with either technical jargon or the technology itself and 2. I have read the previous posts and I DO have a car! ;)

I'm not even sure if I will get any response to this as the last post seems to be nearly a year ago. Hopefully ye are all still alve and working away merrily! :)

I currently applied for Business Information Systems at NUIG and for a similar course in GMIT.I was always into computers, with a keen interest in stuff like UNIX systems administration and Networking. But recently I was going through the GMIT undergraduete prospectus and sticked my attention to the Film and Media studies course. The thing is that I adore Independent Cinema and Art-House movies along with computers, and I'm watching lots of it.I enjoy watching the cinema,so I thought that might be my destiny,to be involved in film industry.I know it sounds a bit weird, but I was never like those computer nerds,I was trying to keep my mind open. The thing that makes me think that I could find myself in the film and TV industry is the ability to create something,to express yourself in the way you want it and feel it,whereas there are no such thing as creativity in Systems administration and all that computer thing.I don't want to spend all my life in office, starring at the monitor,I want a more creative and full life.So I'm in doubts now.I already missed the deadline for the GMIT coourse, and I am very anxious to go to Galway, and nowhere else but Galway.I heard that there is a FETAC course in Mon Giisha or whatever it called,in Galway, but I failed to find it on the net, yet.Could anyone advise me where can I go for my study in Galway and what are my apportunities in future?I am particularly curious about the director/producer jobs.

I'm still currently a student for film and tv production, and looking to go into some AD work, but also have recently been really interested in editing. I don't know, I guess you could say I'm...nervously looking forward to the future :)

just finished a degree in media studies and only started to get interested in film in the last year or two. also interested in working in children´s tv.

have absolutely no practical experience in the media (wrote for the local paper when i was at school, and worked as general helper monkey at the local radio station for a while if that counts)

degree was almost all theory based, and while the theory is all very interesting (ok maybe not all, but most of it is ;) ) when you come out of a theory degree in any subject you might be able to write and talk about the social/psycological/whatever-else-you-might-be-interested-in side of it, but you don´t really know how to DO anything as far as working in the industry is concerened.

living in spain at the moment and starting working on lighting for a short here soon. might prove tough due to the fact that i have no idea and i speak fairly ****e spanish:)

not quite sure whether i want to get into film or children´s tv - or what i might like to do in either.....

Have a degree in Video&Film from DkIT.
Currently working as a sound recorder in the Irish film industry.
I've done a fair bit of acting in the past (stage work, short films and extra work on bigger features and TV shows) so I'm still available to do that kind of stuff.
I'm also an extremely competent voice actor.

Perhaps critically I'm willing to do unpaid shorts and student productions.

edit: forgot to mention I am currently based in Dublin and aged 22 (born in '86).
Anyone interested in my services for any projects just send a PM and I will reply within 24 hours.

I'm an actress who is part of Dublin Youth Theatre, and I have a wide variety of experience on stage and screen. I'm also a student of Journalism and French in DIT. Learning all about filming and editing as part of my course, and I've directed a few short (albeit woefully bad) films with some friends. Just looking to branch out into film in whatever way I can really!
