I used to be back and forth to the UK with another guy I worked with. He had a pretty flat Dublin accent and the girls loved it.

When I was in the US I was propositioned 3 times before I left the hotel after arriving, all because of my accent. Very strange experience considering many people have thought I was American here.

Accents have a lot of variations. One of my best mates family is quite well off and he speaks good and proper ;) whereas I would have a fairly pronounced Dublin accent myself. He went to live in England and his rather posh accent developed an unmistakable to everyone over here UK overlay.

Used to go and visit him and on countless occasions groups of people would say we had very similar accents but mine was just a bit rougher. None of them thought he had an english accent at all and I'm left there going wtf are you listening to !!!
