My accent got me a rumble in the sack once in New York. Didn't even know the girls name when she asked me to leave my mate for 30 minutes and go to her apartment close by. Overheard me ordering a drink. Mind you it was about 4 in the afternoon in an empty dive bar. American's are mad forward like that.

Did you wake up some time later in a bathtub full of ice and minus a kidney?

I'd say they are voting on the Dublin City brogue, as so well sported by Colin Farrell.

    Or possibly the Galway lilt.

I highly doubt the Corkonian accent (which I actually think sounds cool in a sick way!) was voted upon by foreigners.

I find that when I'm on the continent in Europe, I'm usually mistaken for an Englishman (well, Chelsea jersey on!:D).

Most people assume there is only one variation on a particular accent (French, Australian, German, American, English etc.) when the variation between regions and even different parts of various cities is remarkably different, but only to those in the know! What may sound all the same to a foreigner usually sounds completely different to us!

But it is a big cliché that people find the Irish accent sexy. All I find it gets me is the look of ''Why aren't you drunk yet?", and I hate letting people down...,

To be fair the French have seriously fallen out of favor with the Americans so it’s hardly surprising that they don’t consider the French accent as sexy anymore. People always tell me that the Irish accent has a flow to it that is very appealing and that it is a very "sing song" accent. Personally I still think a French girl’s accent is still the sexiest going but as I’m Irish I’m happy to have the sexiest accent.

The reason people might think you English in other parts of Europe is that they may not have much experience of hearing different in English if you spoke to them in their language then they could probably tell you where Irish.

I remember I had a German teacher who used to laugh at the way we would say certain German words with our Irish accent.

Dieter Langer in Killinaskully is epic, his character is so funny!

What's a YOB or do you just like shouting the word "Yob"?

You sound like a typical Irishman with an anti English chip on their shoulder, and before I get called a racist etc, I have a lot of Irish friends who hate the anti English identity their country has ;-)

    Touche!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yob - definition for a Yob my good man.
Every country has anti this & anti that.
Was referring to the derogatory comment about the change being asked by scots & irish & not every english person so no need to shoot me down.
    Unless u are a yob....&proud of it?

    Good hustle...

    Please be quiet.

    OT: Score.

The rest of you can whine away, but I just see this as a good thing.

How is the Irish accent being voted the sexiest in the world a bad thing?
now I'm sure you can all cite examples of the local ugly chick with the dodgy accent, but that's only because you all have thought she was a smelly bitch since primary school.

I for one welcome our new status as the sexiest accent having people in the world.

Me Ma always told me I was sexy, then she'd ask me to sit on her knee. Looking back I was twenty five and it was possibly a bit weird.

Most foreigners have no idea what a proper irish accent actually sounds like. Hence the many ridiculous attempts at our accent by british and american actors over the years. They really all think we talk like characters out of darby o' gill. This is where the poll is fatally flawed. If that accent is sexy, then i'm a born again virgin.

Some Dub accents are very sexy, as are Donegal accents (with the exception of Daniel O'Donnell's)

However, I have been told many times by English men that they love Irish girls because their accents are so sexy
