Online lookup for car registration

    Hi, anyone know where I can do an online lookup of a car registration and get the make/model etc?

    I've been on a few sites, but I need to get to the core of the information. Is this something that's available on some government "car registration" site? Who maintains this type of database?

    Wow - that was fast

    I'm looking to build a box for checking car registrations on my own site, so that's why I wanted to get to the original source of the information.

    There must be a public database that these guys are hooking into... hmmm...
