How could you tell if a dreambox is a clone

or does it even make any real difference ?. After some research I think the Dreambox DM800 HD is the one I want to buy . Has anyone experience of them and where the best place for support ?

I have found these two on ebay - which would you go for . There is a fair price difference beteen the two even though they are the same box

Rule of thumb....if its well cheaper than the average price for a real DM800 from the regular distributors then its a clone....most on eBay are clones

The £350 one looks legit. Looks to have the real manual, remote and box from the sellers pic. Most clones do not have these.

Which would ye go for , is the real one worth an extra € 150 ? seems like alot if they can pretty much do the same job ?

A lot of people use clones and have no hassle with them. But it really is a lottery. There were a lot of reports of clones failing after a few weeks of use, then again the official ones were prone to overheating.

Just beware depending on what you go for is that a lot of images have "clone killing" abilities and can end up screwing your bootloader leaving only a JTAG fix.

Dunno about the 800HD but many use the 500s clones. Some are good and some are bad. Some might not fully power a motor if you have one.

The iNetbox 300 is one of the better 500s clones. Sat World in Drimnagh sell them but can be had for cheaper off the net.

I purchased clone 800hd today for 265.50USD which was 183euro delivered.
I will have in 3-4 so will keep ye posted here.

I can put up details of where i got it if its allowed

I'm assuming you bought it outside Europe, so I hope you don't get stung by Customs.

I got this info from another forum and there are a few after buying with no problems.They support up to bootloader 74 which is the latest.

The new official Dreambox 500HD is suppose to be available before Xmas for £300 which at the current exchange rate is only €330.

Just done a search there , it appears to have no usb which is a bit of a disadvantage

It would be, yes. Import duties, taxes, handling charge, etc.

It was listed on the DHL invoice as "Customs Import VAT"
Up to my eyes with work so did not set it up yet but have a few pics.

Looks the business - do ye reckon I should wait for the new DM500 hd or get one of these DM800 hd clones ?
