Congrats to all who finished, I hope you all enjoyed the 30th anniversary atmosphere, and the perfect weather.
At the risk of making this sound like an Oscar speech, I want to thank a lot of people for making this a special day for me. I enjoyed last year immensely, despite it all going horribly wrong timewise from 14 miles on. This year there was one big difference in my preparation - I logged on to boards.ie regularly, for advice, inspiration, encouragement, and the great sense of community I found here. I owe a huge dept of gratitude to all those who posted excellent advice, either in response to questions from me or others. I am also indebted to those who had some encouraging words when I failed to meet an intermediate target - they helped me keep my eyes focused on the big prize. I will spoil this somewhat by mentioning one person only. I have been following a version of Tergat's program, and when it got hard today I was able to rememebr all the "big workouts", and know that I could keep going.
In 1983 I ran DCM in 3:17:46. Last year was my second marathon, 25 years after the first, and on my 44th birthday I deluded myself into thinking I would run sub 3, or at least get a massive PB. It wasn't to be, and I walked and hobbled to 3:22:19. Tomorrow I will be 45, but for the next few hours I'll treasure my unnofficial 2:58:48, and feel 19 again.
Foe those of you that missed your targets, remember it's possible to go 24 mins faster next year, you just need to believe, and boards.ie is the best source of that belief I know of.
    Thanks.

    Here-Here, great post.
Finished in 4:22 which I was happy enough with as my training was far from ideal.

Well done everyone, what a great day and some super runs, EE looked really strong over the last mile . Couldnt drag myself fromthe course so seen everyone upto 5:30 .
I think i'll need to do this race sometime....

Some run by Pauric Mc Kinney yet again.

It was very impressive to see you running today EE, you were looking very strong at all the points I spotted you (even though I'm sure you felt like thumping me at 21 miles- there's only so much "keep her going! Good jawb!" a man can take;)). Well done on a brilliant time, that's some progress you've made this year!

    Thanks. Praise indeed!
I was delighted to see you each time, especially when you told me at one point that SJ was just ahead. That was a real confidence boost.

I improved 19 mins on last year (although I was recovering from a broken rib in 2008). Seeing improvement is what makes this whole runnning thing so addictive. I never said "never again" to myself this year. Its all about ironing out little problems, running another 1500 miles and gaining 3 or 4 mins next year perhaps.

    Today, I love running!

What happened to the 3:45 pacers. Firstly they seemed to be running much faster than 8:34min/ml, then they seemed to disappear.

I think there was a safety concern with someone following that group.

3:30 lads did great, results might show them outside 3:30 but they spent the last part of the race trying to push people along really gave great support to people aound that time. Well done lads. 4 hour group looked spot on too with 100m to go.

Another brilliant day weather-wise, and major kudos to the large crowds that turned out !

I had an up and down sort of day with very few "coasting" miles, and then my dodgy hamstring decided to really play up at the top of Roebuck Hill. Not sure how many more marathons I'm going to do (if any) so in case it's my last, I gritted my teeth and got on with running the last 6 miles or so.

Got a bit of relief with the injury from Fenian St. onwards so really went for it - came in at 3:49:01 which is 1'45" improvement on last year and a PB for me. Coming on the back of a 3:53 in Berlin last month, needless to say, I'm over the proverbial moon !

Well done to all who finished, esp. those whose race plan was interrupted on the day by injuries etc.

Visited the DCM results site last night and realised that the 3:49:01 was my gun time and that my chip time was 3:47:58 (have they uploaded th times to the wrong column headings ??). so that's nearly 3 mins. off last year's time...................happy days !!!

I was so busy horsing up Nassau St. to break the 3:50 mark that I'd forgotten that I'd started 1'03" after the gun !

4'10'06 in second marathon. 19mins up on last year and happy enough despite the fact that this means another year of pain to break the 4h next year.Knew from last 17m LSR a few weeks ago that it was prob not going to happen, despite a 1'46 adidas half (maybe i'm just not a marathon runner and will never win one :o) Started slowly and first 4 miles were well over 9'10 pace and a debacle was on the cards but fought back with the next 10m all under 9'10 and got to halfway in 2'00'43.Slowed from mile 16 in but not to last years level.A 40min five miler would have got me in but that was not in the legs at that stage (no surprise). Passed 3 of the 29 Marathon club whom you would be in awe of and they were moving well.Really wanted chocolate at the end but none in the bag.Enjoyed it though.:)

Well done to all who finished, twas a lovely day for it. i hope that you aren't in too much pain and thrilled with your time. Saw a few boards.ie on the run at Crumlin but didn't spot anymore along the way. They were looking around 3.00-3.15 pace at that time so hope ye made it.

Saw the race at a few points. There was major confusion at Blessington St about the route as the gardai were told one route (Eccles St) and only when the organisers arrived did they change the route with a couple of minutes to spare. At least one of the wheelchair competitors went the gardai route so i'm wondering does anyone know if he keeps the race?

Thought the pacers were a great idea. and clearly visible from a distance with the ballons.

I was talking to someone who was trying to follow them, but the problem was that they never made it back into the right pen - they started out from the back of the sub 3:30 pen. I think there were a few teething problems with some of the pacing groups.

Well done everyone. Very well organised all round. Came in in 5:05, not mad happy with it, blaming my mini swine flu outbreak last week. Still - at least I can say "I've done a marathon" swiftly followed by "And I'm never doing it again.."

Apologies if this has already been posted but great to see today's editorial rightly embrace the DCM and it's multitude of benefits in both health and economic terms....................

Yes you will,it's like Padraig Harrington winning his first major --he became more special when he won his second! :) in the next while and over Xmas everyone will be asking you about it and then you will realise what you have achieved and the pain will be long gone. You might not feel like doing another tomorrow morning though!!:)

Oh my goodness. Is all I can say really. I don't think anything can prepare you for how tough that is. The last 6 miles is just unbelievable. And I don't think I've ever felt worse than that walk around Merrion Square at the end. 3h58 on my watch, after finding something from somewhere and belting the last mile. Completely worth it.
I went out way too hard in retrospect, even though I felt comfortable until about the 12 mile mark. Thanks very much to the two 3.45 pacers for getting me to mile 15, at which point I completely blew up. Thanks to the 4h pacers as well for the encouragement at the end. After falling behind them at mile 23, blowing past them as I came around the front of Trinity and realising I was going to break 4 hours was the absolute best feeling of the day.
Immense crowds as well. The last mile is an absolute blur. Particular kudos to the crowd at the top of that hill between mile 20 and 21. That was amazing.
What a bloody day. I'll write more later when I get a chance.

This is the guy that did the somersault, I only caught him at the end as I obviously wasn't expecting him to do a sommersault, it came out over the intercom that he was celebrating because of the 10k bonus he was going to get from his dad for coming in under 2'26 :D Not sure how true it is

SJ home in 3:02 - another great run. Wizwill in 3:08 and Sosa in 3:14. Well done lads. I wonder were the last 10k into a headwind?

The chip figures need to be taken with a pinch of salt. Around 20 secs off in my case. Anyone else see times that didn't match?

Well done to all who ran today! I cycled round quite a bit of the course, it was great to see so many great performances. My internat connection is too slow to upload all my photos, so it'll be a while till I get them on RacePix365 but here's my favourite:) Who'da thunk this guy had run a 3 hour marathon a week ago.

Well done everyone. The conditions looked very good, though I wonder if some people found it a lot warmer than they expected? Quite a few of the 2:30 to 3:00 finishers were completely shattered and the medical staff were pretty busy around that time. Was devastated I couldn't run myself, but it was great to be there anyway. I was involved in the cleanup of the start area, and I was amazed at some of the gear that people left. Luckily some of it is being recycled.

Me. The chip time is the same as the clock time. It took me a while top get up to the start line. Shame as it seems the official results will be taken from that tds-live site. I lost out on a minute! :)

crossed the line in 5h01, but started in the blue. took like 5mins to get going?
does that mean i hit under 5hours, or is the tds times final

Finished in 4:28:10 gun time, absolutely delighted, and shocked at going sub-4:30. Had an awesome day, and will definitely be back next year :D

It sounds like it's just a problem organising the information. They'll probably fix it and the chip times should be accurate, if you check back later.

Mine is the same. Chip and Finish are excatly equal: 03:44:46.

Now I'm not complaining; I am delighted with that for my first (and last I'd say) Marathon. But anything that would deduct a few seconds off would be appreciated. I wonder will they show the chip times on the DCM site results?
