    If it helps op, in terms of the problem you've identified, there's not really any other way it could be.     Eh.. the question was why do people attempt to be something they're not to impress a member of the opposite sex. The primary reason for this is sex.

    And reproduction and maintaining the survival of the species is the primary purpose of existence. Of course, human intellect allows us to try, and usually fail, to rise above biological instincts like that.

    Some animals do a dance to impress their mate so they can ride reproduce. womens wear make up to make them stand out more. Men have hair gel or after shave. Again to stand out. We're in a world where doing the naked chicken dance (As seen in scrubs) won't cut it

    I agree with you moderately in a sense, but I disagree with you in other respects. Nothing you do really matters definitively, it may have subjective value, but not objective value until you decide to make a decision to follow something higher than yourself, or more specifically until the point where you decide to be reunited with your Creator. So what you does matter, it matters a lot, in fact it matters far more than people give it credit for.

    OP: I'd advise you to seek out for God in your life. Once you find Him, purpose will start to seem much more clear in your life. I remember being about at the same age as you were (early - mid teens?) and thinking the exact same thing as you have. It's never too late to find out about what purpose we have in this fallen world of ours.

    Apologies, but it is perfectly relevant to the question. It's undeniable that the interaction with the Biblical text can be fulfilling in peoples lives.

    It's amazing how people can post secular notions about this being all there is, and Christian perspectives being automatically unwelcome. I'll adhere to what you are saying, nonetheless. I'm not here for "point scoring" or for "enlisting followers", I believe what I am saying can help the OP, and I was in the OP's position not too long ago concerning meaning.

    Am I wrong in thinking that this isn't meant to be atheists corner? That's over there?

    I don't think these feelings are in anyway unique to people who have yet to find "God". These are perfectly normal feelings for any hormone riddled teenager and will not be solved by reading the bible or putting yor faith in some mystical being that will give you a purpose to carry you through.

    I'm not saying you should forsake your beliefs, whatever they are. But I think the best advice on here so far is to relax and enjoy all the little things. And when the mood takes you, get drunk, get laid, get high... Whatever, as long is it makes you happy and doesn't effect someone elses happiness, it's open season.

    We'll never agree on this. I personally believe true meaning comes from a relationship with God. As for them being normal feelings for a teenager, I'm quite aware, I was a teenager with this same stance towards life (That it was meaningless) but also as a teenager found meaning through seeking out God. As for your view that it won't be solved by reading the Bible, that's your point of view, for many the Bible does give ultimate meaning, so as such I believe it's a reasonable suggestion to the OP.

    As for your point of view concerning drunkenness, sexuality, and drugs, this is the reason why I believe that people don't have true meaning if they need to resort to these things rather than genuinely seeking for answers and a way of life.
