Was just thinking about the questions that would occur should some of the respectable people i know in RL happen upon some of my posts on this fine site of ours....

some of it most certainly isn't pretty!!

Has anyone ever had someone they know find out their on boards and comment on it!!

Surely it's happened at some stage, quite a few of us have gone some way towards revealing our true identities ( I R Batman). I'm lookin at you Tom , what would MammyBrummy (yore ma) say!!?

My mates know who i am on this site. A lot of them post here too. And this account is actually used by 2 of my room mates as i'm always logged in on the main computer. I've come across some posts that aren't mine in the past. Never fúcking around though.

My mum stalks my page. She only recently told me.
I joined Boards when I was doing my Leaving Cert, to ask people's advice on a college course I wanted to do.
One day, she was browsing for information of the course on google, got linked to Boards and has followed my Boards life since :P

I've had people I don't know in college and in bars come up to me and address me as pikachucheeks. Perhaps it's weird to say, but it doesn't faze me!

The fact I'm on Boards isn't a secret and I wouldn't try to hide it from anyone. I'm not ashamed of having a profile on Boards or of any of my posts.

Haha! I basically post my whole life on boards, what upsets me, what makes me happy, some really cringey things actually.

One day, as I'm setting off to work, a good friend of mine announces she is joining boards and is going to add me as a friend! I swear I spent that whole shift sifting through a thousand posts in my mind, wondering had I posted anything that would piss her off or anything really embarrassing! :rolleyes:

I raced home to get online to go through my posts and I have to admit, I did edit a few! I can't have my supah cool RL image shattered! :pac:

I hope she never sees this.....

I wouldn't say it's a secret for me either but at the same time i wouldn't broadcast it, i know i have friends that lurk here but i wouldn't be worried about anyone under the age of 40 tbh!!

One thing i find strange is having conversations with Boardsies in RL the topic of conversation always reverts back to boards and i've gotten some strange looks from people when they hear us refering to Usernames in public!

Some people in real life know who I am on boards. Either they know me through boards, or they've met me and found out that I was on boards, or they've seen me browsing boards in work/home/LANs/internet cafes/etc...

I don't broadcast that I'm on Boards really, with the exception of mentioning it on college radio recently and speaking about my experiences with it. I didn't discuss my username or any posters, though.

I'd say about 90% of my friends know I'm on Boards. I don't talk about it to certain people though, because they're very against the idea of being social online, with people you don't know.
There's definitely still somewhat of a stigma there.

For good reason too as we know...

I find myself forgetting that people lurk a lot on this aswell, and that i'm not just replying to the people that i want to reply to.

Another thing is that while i have met a lot of the posters/ talk to them outside of boards of my "regular" forum and know that they're all A1 , i sometimes forget that outside of that forum i don't know most posters from Aadam......

I've never been that bothered about weather people know me in real life or no that Im on this site...
I dont post pictures of what i look like cleerly because Im a little uncomfortable with people knowing who I am for some daft reason... but other then that any boardy ive meet have been cool.... I've nothing bad to say about any one.

In fairness though, I don really give a f*ck. Yes I make immature masturbation jokes and am interested in things you wouldn't have assumed, so what!!

I always forget that too! When you're posting in a thread, you feel as though you're just addressing the other posters, when really, what you're saying can be read by anyone with access to the internet. The circle is much wider than you think.

At the end of the day though, I don't mind because I only post what I'm willing to share and what I'm willing to put out there. There's often big serious debates on Boards about abortion, international relations etc ... I'd never offer my personal opinion on any of those topics, because I keep some things private, there's some topics I don't want to debate or discuss on a public forum, which anyone can access.
