What's wrong with adults reading comics you small minded fool.
Jaysus Pighead I think you have uncovered a definate cross-section of board's users, I can almost taste the nerd-rage in the air!
    To clarify, as an adult:

    Reading a beano for a laugh/nostalgic purposes,grand.

Reading 'Captain America' in a library. Wrong.

I don't read them but see no harm in it really.

How do you know Pighead isn't perfect. You've never met the chap!

And for your information Pighead's hobbies include: working for various charity organisations, animal rescuing, woodcraft (Pighead likes to craft chairs tables and other important household items for the old women in his neighbourhood who are struggling financially and who need a helping hand).

If you feel like slagging Pighead off because he cares that's totally up to you but in this posters eyes his hobbies are a lot more noble than you lot and your comic books.

Old women eh :P tut tut tut :D

Definitely donmeister. They may be nerdy these comic book people but they're also extremely feisty. A lot of rage circulating around this thread. If they were comic book characters they would probably be called "Rage-Men"

All Pighead is saying is that it isn't normal for grown men or women to be reading comic books. Not saying that the people who read comics are freaks or evil. Just saying that they aren't normal.

The Japanese are mad about comics and can be seen reading them in public everywhere. So pighead never go to Japan or you will CRRRRIIINNNNGE yourself to death.
Although the Japanese are known to take things to the extreme.........
Japanese man petitions to marry comic-book character
    (AFP) – Oct 29, 2008
TOKYO (AFP) — A Japanese man has enlisted hundreds of people in a campaign to allow marriages between humans and cartoon characters, saying he feels more at ease in the "two-dimensional world."
Comic books are immensely popular in Japan, with some fictional characters becoming celebrities or even sex symbols. Marriage is meanwhile on the decline as many young Japanese find it difficult to find life partners.
Taichi Taka****a launched an online petition aiming for one million signatures to present to the government to establish a law on marriages with cartoon characters.
Within a week he has gathered more than 1,000 signatures through the Internet.
"I am no longer interested in three dimensions. I would even like to become a resident of the two-dimensional world," he wrote.
"However, that seems impossible with present-day technology. Therefore, at the very least, would it be possible to legally authorise marriage with a two-dimensional character?"
Befitting his desire to be two-dimensional, he listed no contact details, making it impossible to reach him for comment to explain if his campaign is serious or tongue-in-cheek.
But some people signing the petition are true believers.
"For a long time I have only been able to fall in love with two-dimensional people and currently I have someone I really love," one person wrote.
"Even if she is fictional, it is still loving someone. I would like to have legal approval for this system at any cost," the person wrote.
Japan only permits marriage between human men and women and gives no legal recognition to same-sex relationships.
Japan's fans of comic books, or "manga," sometimes go to extremes.
Earlier this month, a woman addicted to manga put out an online message seeking to kill her parents for asking her to throw away comic books that filled up three rooms.
Prime Minister Taro Aso is an avid fan of manga and recently complained that he has been too busy to read comic books since taking office.

I read around 30 books per year and about 10-15 GRAPHIC NOVELS..........eh comics.
But i'm not really interested in marrying any comic characters except catwoman,eh...and maybe silk spectre,eh or vampirella.Jasus ...wat am i saying?
Eh..actually....thinking about it pighead your right ...their a bunch of pervs the lot of them.No more GRAPHIC NOVELS comics for me.

I have no way of proving it,but i figure there's a direct correlation between comic-book reading,ponytail-growing and airsofting..the ultimate nerdly mix.
Maybe some forumers can tell me why this is so?

Pighead's no expert on social commentary but perhaps it's all to do with the art of pretending.

Airsofter's is basically pretend army for grown ups while comic books lead the reader into a fantasy world where men and women can do super human things like fly faster than speeding bullets and lifting fully grown cows with just one hand.

Maybe it's a form of escapism because their lives are rotten.

I read them but never in public. It's my secret shame.
Are we talking the Beano / Dandy comics or are we talking about manga (Is that the name?). There's a difference.

That reminds me, I have a collection stored away in the attic of Beano / Dandys back from the 1994-1996 era. I might take them out in public and eat all those free drumsticks that I got and forgot to eat

Maybe they're pretending that they are a girl or even an actual pony? As Pighead stated already he's no expert in this field and these are merely speculations.

The ponytail is a recognition symbol that paedos use so they can be identified as paedos to other paedos.

There are some excellent comics about V for Vendetta, Maus and Watchmen etc... Its just another art form, why shouldn't people read them?:D

Yes there may well be some excellent comics out there but the point is grown men or women should not be reading them. Pighead's sure that the standard of nappies today is better than they have ever been but it doesn't mean he is going to start wearing them again.

Listen Corkfeen, Pighead wasn't always so anti-comics. When he was a kid he too read Bunty and Jackie but once he turned 18 he knew it was time to say goodbye to teh girls and start reading adult stuff like newspapers and thriller novels.

I guess some people cringe when they see adults reading comics but that's their problem. Any adult that reads comics in public and feels embarrassed about it has a problem too.

I say read 'em in public all day they long if that's what you wanna do. Who cares what people think about what your reading. I'd be more embarrassed about reading The Sun or The Mirror quite frankly.

Even as a child i never had any interest in comics. Partly for reasOns of self preservation. One would get kicked to death for reading comics.. for the fear i may turn into a dufos.. dad was very harsh at times, particularly when it came to comic reading

They dont "do" anything for me, if one wants to be entertained visually.... watch a movie, if you want to read... read.. why the need for the pictorial illustration?

I don't read comics, never have as far as I can remember, didn't know comics were a popular thing in Ireland for kids, maybe that was just amongst my friends. Having said that though I remember Channel 4 used to show Manga cartoons, which presumably were comic books first, late at night and more than once found myself engrossed. Sometimes very layered and interesting stories and characters, although I can't recall any specific examples as it's been 4 or 5 years since they used to show them. They still never convinced me to go out and buy an actuall comic, but I'm fairly sure most of the language, themes and storylines would have been well beyond most children to follow. I honestly can't see anything wrong with it.

Comics are great. I like sitting down to a nice comic/s every month and just letting myself get drawn into the drama, the art and the writing. It's not unnatural for adults to read comics, people in their 50's read them.

I'm 24 and collect comics, it's a healthy hobby, it's just like reading books with amazing artwork, some artists, such as Alex Ross is really quite remarkable by anyone's standards.

I really don't agree with the attitude that us comic book nerds are losers..or saying we should get kicked to death. I'm fairly sure that if someone tried to kick me to death my healing factor would protect me or surely all I'd have to do is pop my 12 inch adamatium indestructible claws and gut you like a fish...anyway...what was my point again?

I've been with girls who thought it was "cute" that I read comics but they never got it or understood which is annoying because I don't get "private practice" and she gets anoyed with me? I know, right?

It's just another way to let your imagination run free, be amazed by fiction and share something wonderful with like minded types

Now I must go, the mean streets of Waterford stink...of injustice...

Ha ha love it! It's as if once you turn fifty you are suddenly infallible and immune from making mistakes. "It can't be wrong! I seen a man in his fifties do it"

Hate to break it to you Riddler but people in their fifties make mistakes as well.

Mel Gibson (Age 50- 2006): "Fucking Jews... Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world. Are you a Jew? I'm talking to you sugartits"

Jan Moir (Age 53- 2009): "Why there was nothing "natural" about Stephen Gately's death"

Bill Clinton (Age 52- 1998) "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. I never told anybody to lie, not a single time; never. These allegations are false"

Pighead thinks it may be wise to re-assess your blind faith towards people in their fifties.

the only thing better than reading is reading to someone else.
Surely having somebody read to you is better than having to read to somebody else?

Watchmens is on that list along with classic novels. Have you watched any batman or spiderman movies? They wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the comic.

Try reading an a comic, you'll enjoy it. I think you'll find a fair few from the literature board that read comics too. :D
