people forget how good heskey actually was for us, just a bit inconsistent.

owen had a lot to thank him for.

You could have put Dowie along side Owen back then, wouldn't have mattered he was lethal.

    he was.

but in particular, if you watch the "treble" season, heskey put in some phenomenal performances too; just not goalscoring ones all the time.

even at that he had around 20 goals in all competitions that season iirc.

he was lobbing keepers from 25 yards and everything at one stage.

    strange, i know...

I have a feeling the data protection commissioner will also be photoshopping GIF's of Mr. Sinatra taking a nut from Drogba after reading the thread.

    poor aul Dirk.

wtf does he have to do to be recognised as a huge player.

Where did i criticise Kuyt?? He works hard, if he loses the ball, he never stops fighting till he gets it back. He scores important goals, he's great.
I dont rate him as a lone striker though!

We're talking about the here and now, who we have on the squad now, why talk about who i would have bought.

Why is that always your excuse when someone says the squad isnt strong enough, you say we didnt have the money blah blah blah as some kind of defence for it, instead of agreeing yeh we dont have strenght in depth!

    Yes second place!!!
Dont forget how influential Alonso was in those 86 points.

You can see Kuyt on the score sheet again, christ mystic meg is on the Liverpool thread!!! Hey Meg!

Riera is due???? is he pregnant??

Babels glimpses, wow lets put all our hope in glimpses!

how could we ever forget alonso with you reminding us constantly. f*** sake.

kuyt is a huge player for us. enormous. for the last 18 months he's as likely to get us a vital goal or give us an important performance as anyone...including Nando and Stevie.

nice Riera joke. he's been slow off the mark this season; but he showed last season he's capable of big performances. Chelsea away and Villa at home off the top of the head from last season.

babel, in his last 3 or 4 games, has come on the pitch and showed some real quality. there is no reason to believe he can't start carrying it into full games. let's be optimistic ffs.

start getting behind the team Fink, seriously. all you seem to do is moan about them.

Fink, i have to ask, are you serious? Like in general, are you serious or are you half tongue in cheek most of the time just for a bit of craic. I kind of hope its the latter and you don't steadfastly honestly believe the things you say...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,131 ✭✭✭NabyLadistheman

As TB said Alonso played in eight of Liverpool's draws last season while they were able to win 4-1 without him at Old Trafford, 3-0 without him at West Ham and 5-1 at Newcastle with him on the bench.

Alonso was a great player but the way people use his sale as a point to prove how poor the squad is ridiculous

when you piss & moan about the squad, its your round about way of taking a pop at Rafa. you know it, and i know it.

i bring up the resources available, because with what he has available to him, our squad is very good (as was proven by last seasons title challenge) & the reason our squad isn't as strong as it could be is because of the resources available.

we have lost one huge player from last years team, but gained another huge player for this years campaign, in fact more of a huge player when it comes to attacking threat.

we are without Torres & we have free scoring Kuyt as back up.

    that'll do.

i'm in two minds about Rafa, but its not like there's anyone good enough to replace him at the mo even if we did sack him. Some things he's done for the club are brilliant, others not so good, he's a very stubborn man at times.

It p1sses me off that Alonso is gone, one of our most influential players and we get someone that cant replace him for at least 3 months in the season where we really have to win the Premiership, its daft relying on Lucas who's nowhere near as good as Alonso.

I agree Kuyt is a huge player for us. You'll never hear me moan about Gerrard, Torres, Reina, Masch, Johnson, or Yossi.

I prefer realism than optimism thanks.

I hope i'm wrong though, i hope Liverpool kick Sunderlands asses tomorrow but it worries me big time when Torres and Gerrard are out.

You guys live in your own little boards bubble, you wont accept criticism of LFC, like ostriches burying your heads in the sand.

All the soccer pundits on tv, newspapers etc all mention Liverpools lack of depth in the squad, not everyones anti LFC, its just the truth!!!

It doesn't matter what he describes himself as, He's been playing upfront for 2 years, in our team he's a forward.
Why do you keep saying 2 in midfield? Mascherano is available tomorrow. Who's number 2?
I'm happy to criticise the defence it's been way below par, read what I said again, I said Carragher should stfu and get on with his job.

You definately do not have to be happy with everything to be a supporter.
But you do have to support to be a supporter. The hint is in the name.

I go to the games, i buy the merchandise, i support them all the way but i'm not afraid to criticise them and i dont have rose tinted glasses on like most in here!!!

I was talking about Alonso and Gerrard because thats who we were discussing!

R.I.P. "Liverpool FC Team Talk/Gossip/Rumours Thread".

Not sudden. On life support since August. Will be sadly missed by great contributors and readers over the years. Now gone to hell for eternal damnation.

You sould set up a Liverpool no criticisms allowed thread, they'll all be happy there, leave this as the real life thread, and not dreamland!

criticise away, but base it on what is actually happening.

things are not as grim as you make out.

people agree with you about the defence being suspect so far, especially from set pieces.

people agree that Torres needs cover.

but don't expect unfounded criticism to not be argued with.

and don't expect your constant putting down of the team not to be addressed, especially when it's so often unwarranted.

the problem Fink, is all you do is criticise. its all. you. do.

you moan about Alonso, wtf? he is gone months, he handed in a transfer request. get over it.

you moan say we need Yossi to play out of his skin tomorrow, ignoring that we have numerous other players who are more than capable of stepping up to the plate, as they have proven time & time again.

its tedious, to say the least.

no one here is claiming we have an animal strong squad. best in the league or anything like that. if we are to win the league, we will need an element of luck with injuries, no doubt about it, but thats ok.

we do however have a strong squad, which is more than capable of getting big results when key members are out of it, as we have proven before time & time again.

the annoying thing is IF we win tomorrow, i have no doubt you'll disappear until middle of next week when you find something else to piss & moan about, however if we lose, first chance you get you'll be on here with your "i told you so's".

reality is Sunderland are a good team who can give anyone a good game, no matter how strong their squad (see OT last week).
