Carlow? its that place betwen Dublin and Kilkenny that isn't Castledermot.

It must exist because they built a bypass around it.

I like it by the way, it sells Beer and Kebabs, a major plus for any town/county/kibutz

Them figures mean nothing to me without knowing all the other counties in Ireland population.

I.E. Is it the fourth smallest, third biggest, etc.
    http://homepage.tinet.ie/~cronews/geog/census/copop.html

Carlow needs to market itself as something. At least if it was the gay capital of Ireland it would be known. Right now its now existent!!

Don't forget they won the Christy Ring Cup for the past 2 years. I am now struggling to find anymore facts.

Kathyrn Thomas & the Christy Ring Cup...maybe now I know why I never met someone from Carlow, they must have pretended they were from Kilkenny or Dublin.

    Pathetic!

Carlow is a great town. Great night life during college times. As for tourist attractions, they have such things as the Brownshill Dolmen (the biggest in Europe), Kathryn Thomas is from Carlow and is always plugging it. As far as I know Caroline Morahan is from there as well.

My mother carved her initials into it as a child look for 'bon' :D

Famous people from Carlow include engineer William Dargan, regarded as the father of Irish Railways, songwriter Ritchie Kavanagh and Michael Flatley's mother. Not realy sure if that last one counts but I will put it in anyway. Or the one before that either. Come to think of it forget I mentioned any of them

Ah no you can have Ritchie Kavanagh. No really.

Carlow the second smallest county with the third smallest population and a beautiful hidden gem. Sha-Roe in Clonegal probably the best restaurant in the South East. Mt Leinster, St Mullins. I'm in Co.Carlow 4 years after many years wandering and wouldn't live anywhere else. (Except South West France)

We have the earliest example of a round tower castle in the British Isles in our very own Carlow Castle (or whats left of it)! Take that!! ;)

John Tyndal was from Carlow, as well as Dargan, as already mentioned.

I always assumed Carlow was fairly well known, it was supposed to have been one of the quickest growing counties during the recent boom no? Now as for places like Roscommon, Leitrim and Longford, I've often wondered as to there existance, what is it they do? Rarely, when I do here the names I have to think 'wow, are they actually counties of Ireland??' :p

Besides, I'm from Carlow, thats all you need to know and all thats important!

Many counties aspire to this. Not sure why but who am I to argue with them

Until they built the bypass Carlow was simply a traffic calming measure between Waterford and Dublin.

In the interests of fairness is there going to be a thread now for -

    Leitrim
    Longford
    Fermanagh ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,752 ✭✭✭pablomakaveli

I've always referred to Carlow as the forgotten county. It's all tucked away out of sight.

As far as i know Carlow was historically a defensive weapon.

If anyone tried to invade Ireland we were supposed to **** Carlow at them and run.

These counties are better known. You may have formed an opinion that is positive or negative but you knew enough to form an opinion.

With Carlow, I couldn't even do that. That for me makes it the 'forgotten county'...
