First of all, I do not know if this is being placed in the right forum. I looked up and cannot find a suitable forum for this but if I have overlooked it, then please by all means move it to the correct one. Thanks.

Now I was just looking at Euronews and could not believe my eyes and ears when I saw that Belgium has just had a competition, a first of its kind, 'Miss Homeless 2009!' :O

I thought it was a joke but then I looked it up and sure fire there was photos of the winner, and her prize is sheltered and safe accommodation for a year and possibility of work etc. I do not know what will happen to the other contestants but its really strange and I don't know what to think of it.

Here is a link ( in case you don't believe me!! ) this has photos of the winner plus other homeless contestants!!!

    http://www.reporters.be/features/show/77

What is your opinion on that?

    What exactly is the problem?

Your tone (internet tone) suggests you are shocked at this. If that is the case, then why?

Isn't this better than having some poxy who's-the-biggest-whore (beauty) peagent?

This is a great idea, it creates awareness of a pretty serious problem. The winner also got somthing that she will really appretiate. What we take for granted is another persons dream.

Sorry if I came across in 'internet tone'. But yes I was shocked because homelessness is a serious issue and not to be made fun of and making it into some pageant seems a bit odd, don't you think. I know she gets a prize but it is a strange set up and it might as well be a lottery. One gets a prize the others go back to being on the street.

It probably does create awareness and undoubtedly money is raised for this needy cause by all the homeless chicks stripping off and posing for a calendar.

You are assuming this is a joke? It looks pretty serious to me. What's really shocking and very odd is the little miss whore beauty pageants. You know the ones where they get little 10 year old girls dressed up like hookers? That's pretty shocking.

This is great I don't see any problems with it at all.

It's not a lottery, the sexiest one wins.

    More power to them
Homeless women are savage to go out with...... it's easier to get them to stay over.

Why not, I`m sure that some homeless people scrub up well. And the publicity may help them get back on their feet.

They should pimp it up a bit more: The Eurovision Bum Contest, where they all get interviewed by some guy who wears a haz-mat suit, and carries a can of fly-spray. They could do a little song, or even a bit of a jig to spread it out a bit more. In fact, Tralee would be a good place to start it off.

Not quite. There's a little town in South Dakota called Brookings that has had a Hobo Day Parade each year since November 1912. The South Dakota State University students and townsfolk dress up in torn, shabby clothes and build make-shift floats on the back of flatbed trailers pulled by farm tractors, and parade down their Main Street in what looks like (to an outsider) as a celebration of poverty.

Where they belong! What's the tag line for this competition? "the best of a bad bunch"?

I can't believe they're trying to bring a bit of fun into the life's of homeless people, I like my homeless people miserable and pathetic so that I can at least feel good about myself and how my life has worked out while a stroll past them with my nose in the air.

Is the OP aware that there is a homeless soccer world cup as well?

Is it based purely on looks? Cause if it they maybe took certain things, maybe helping society out cleaning the streets and all, then we'll have people working for free!
