Can anybody give an example of this happening in recent years? Because I can't think of it ever happening. The only Car-Jackings that I have heard of have been in Cities and do not involve "un-marked" Garda cars.
There are people who impersonate gardai for criminal gain.

Ms Farragher said Mr Breen had a key-ring with a Garda emblem and told her that he was an off-duty garda.
    The old official Garda keyring?
I am pretty sure it was a saloon Nissan Sunny about 94 ish with 3 guys in it all glued to the windscreen looking at the badges on the back on my car.
The image this conjures up does not scream Garda to me, plus the alternating lights they used are just w*nker gadgets.
A JUDGE has described a case where a man and a woman tried to entice a 13-year-old boy into their car under the pretence that they were gardai as "one of the most disgraceful and outrageous" he has ever presided over.
The dupee was 13 so they would believe anyone. But I cant believe they only got 6 Months for trying to abduct a kid. The judge said he took this stuff very seriously and handed down 6 months. If he thought it was not that serious what where they going to get ...ice cream?

Sorry for the flippancy Trauma they where actually good links. That said in none of the cases did anyone go to the extent of a really believable unmarked Garda car.

If people familiarise themselves with unmarked Garda cars there should be no problem in the event that they are pulled over. Garda car sirens are different from Ambulance and Firebrigade.

Aswell, only open your window a crack ask for id and be ready to move off if in doubt.

If you think it is a fake garda car keep driving diall 999 and stick on your hazards, slowing down but not stopping.

Normally if you do fail to stop for an unmarked car you will soon see alot more marked and unmarked cars appearing at junctions with blue lights and sirens blaring.

For those who are not familiar with an unmarked garda car here is the most commond kind, complete with alternating headlights, front bumper blue lights, dash mounted blue light, rear brake light blue flashing light and siren.

Note the specially commissioned black stealth alloys and the steely glare of the driver.
