Im sure he was a really nice bloke and never was in the media for the wrong reasons and kept professional so fair play to him in this modern age for keeping his head when he could have easily done a Robbie Williams or even a Ronan keating.
What I hate more than anything is this rubbish reporting and speculating. Its actualy more pathetic than Boyzone were themselves. I also hate the fake hanger-ons or the rubbish sympathy is attributed to 'stars' when they die.
He died in ambiguous circumstances but they've ruled out any foul play and have a bit of patience and the autopsy will be revealed... then ppl can start making accusations and theorys.

    *nb Boyzone were rubbish.

Hasnt it been reported that his death may be attributed to a bout of binge drinking? Or is this just another round of speculation

    'Binge' drinking or drinking.
By putting 'binge' before the word, it looks like the media are gonna push the public mindset to self inflicted accidental death.

Most of us drink, sometimes to an excessive amount. Accidents do happen, sad but true

They're not "pushing the public mindset" to anything, it's how it is.

    Of course it's self inflicted

When there was a thread about that young lad from the north whose liver was failing, people said it was his own fault

Its always a tragedy to hear about a young person dying so young. May he rest in peace and may his family get the privacy and respect they deserve in a time like this.

I find a consolation in the fact that at least all the lads from Boyzone had put their feuds behind them and they all got to perform together as they seemed like they genuinely loved and respected each other.

They're taking their time with the autopsy though in fairness, it should be done asap to be accurate especially in a case like this.

Aparently it's a Spanish bank holiday today so it can't be done til tomorrow.

Anyway, in spite of that, autopsy reports are not released for ages usually.

Yeah but even here autopsies don't depend on bank hoildays and it doesn't matter how long after the autopsy the results come out it crucial for the autopsy to be done asap as some info could be lost.

I'm in shock. I always liked Stephen Gaitley. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. It's a shame-he was far too young. :(

    Horrible way to go.

My mam always says to me that if I do get drunk (not that she condones it) or any of my friends do to put the person to sleep on their side to stop them choking on their own vomit. It's scary as it's the kind of thing I've heard about but have never actually heard of anyone dying this way.

This is one of those things that you think of "Nahh it's not true he is to young - is it true"

Then you wonder did he take an overdose or something because it makes no sense in your mind that someone so well know can die so young.

The Irony of these things is he will sell more CD's than he ever did. - Go figure the human mind

RIP. He is Irish and we lost another one.

    :) Define irony.

Sounds like a horrible way to go. Not exaclty a fan but he seemed like the most harmless guy in the world.

Was never a huge Boyzone fan, but I met the guy once up in Westwood (had the same trainer), and he was a genuinely pleasant person. He was down to earth and just acted like a regular guy, didn't go on like someone famous. Had a brief chat with him and he was so nice, chatty and courteous, a really good guy.

Was so surprised when I heard he died, so sad that he has been taken so young. It's such a huge shame that someone like him has passed away, someone who seemed so genuine and decent.

My thoughts go out to his partner, family and friends. RIP

I see TV3 have "The Boyzone (and Stephen Gately) Story " advertised already. Didn't take them long to trawl youtube or another hard-hitting doc.

I wonder which Sunday paper will be the first to give away the free cd?

Sad end to a young life.

Basically summed up how I feel right there!

I feel so sorry for his partner, having lost the person he wanted to share the rest of his life with, at such a young age ... It's really sad. I can't even begin to think of what he's going through, or how he'll ever recover. It's just so tragic.

When I found out, I actually cried. I was a massive fan of Boyzone... I used to fall asleep listening to their music every night, I had posters of them on my walls, I used to go to school, wearing my Boyzone backpack :o - I can imagine there's a lot of people who can relate to that, or did the same as I did , hence why the reaction to his death has been so huge.

It was an awful thing to happen and as many other people have said, he was far too young. He had his whole life ahead of him and much more to offer the entertainment industry. A great shame - and a great loss.

I was in shock when I was told about this. I loved Boyzone when I was a child, first concert I ever went to was Boyzone in The Point, had a Boyzone pencil case and Boyzone posters in my bedroom. It's so strange to hear that someone who you idolised as a child has died.

I remember myself and my cousin used to have sleepovers and we'd stay awake 'til all hours fighting over which one of us would marry Stephen Gately and which one would marry Ronan Keating! She got lucky one night when we decided that whoever could stand on their head for long enough could have Stephen. I sneezed and fell over so I had to be Ronan's wife. :(

Actually can't believe this. The death of someone so young is always devastating. RIP Stephen.

I'd like to add my condolences to his friends and family.

I was a huge Boyzone fan when they first started out. They were the first band I went to see in concert. No matter what you thought of the others in the group, I think every Boyzone fan liked Stephen. I have their old videos and will probably watch them again and bring out the inner child in me.

Sorry to hear the news but I'd like to thank Stephen for some memories he gave me in my childhood. They were definitely happier times.

    R.I.P.

    Condolences to friends/family of his

Stephen Gately was my first love, in the child sense obv, and I cried when I found out he was gay (thought my brothers were winding me up!). Convinced id marry him one day, had posters on my walls and Boyzone in the RDS in the lashing rain was my first ever concert. Only met him briefly twice, once in westwood when i was bout 9 where he took the time to go over and talk to me along with Keith Duffy, because I was clearly in awe! :) These are fond memories that I have of him, lovely bloke and a tragic end for somebody so young.

While i dont claim to be deeply affected by his passing (my days of Boyzone and stephen gately are long gone) it is tragic and my thoughts are with those close to him .
