breakingnews.ie says louis walsh will not be going to spain with the rest of the bandmates-he must be in bits..

People can be concerned, upset AND curious. There is bound to be speculation when such a young man dies. I for one hope for the dignity of his family that there has been nothing sinister in Stephen's death but I am interested to find out and I don't think that discussing public statements which have been made, as whycliff has done, is negative, insensitive or unnecessary.

By saying it was a tragic accident must mean there was some unitentional external action invloved which led to the death.
I mean you dont go to bed and accidentally not wake up.
So i would imagine there is more to it.

Sudden unexplained death syndrome (SUDS) is actually common enough. I know two people that have died from it.

whats all this with the hangers on all going over to majorca. Why? To have their picture taken, ge on the news, or just to be able to say they were there>

A friend of mine died in Spain a good few years ago. None of us ever thought about going over. What use would we be? That is private, for the family only.

I think whycliff is focusing on the word "accident". As he says, an accident usually involves an external factor. A heart attack would not be an accident in my eyes.

They would have spent months together, in and out of hotels, tour buses, planes, tv studios. I'd say they have a bond similar to that of brothers.

On top of that they have the resources to do it.

Is it fair to label them hangers on?

AFAIK, the family statement simply said that it was a tragic accident. So many things could fit into that statement that speculation at this stage is pointless, particularly when the actual official result is likely to be available within days. Personally I think it is incredibly unfair (and pointless) to speculate in public various interpretations of the family's statement, probably drafted and released by a family grieving over the death of their child not 24 hours before.

People speculate. If you are in a room with your friends right now talking about stephen Gately i bet you are all talking about how did he die. Speculating. How is a forum any different? Its just people talking and wondering about it, until they get the answer.

It's in public. Please tell me you know the difference between the appropriateness of things done in public and private.

The same actions have been taken with nearly all dead celeb threads for the past few months.

Any more problems with AH modding, take it to the Feedback or Helpdesk

A Sad loss and at such a young age.

Never liked the band, but he came across as a genuinely nice bloke.

Condolences to his family and friends.

    R.I.P. Stephen.

What the f*ck is wrong with you?

A 33 year old dropping dead is not funny.

He's already been reprimanded by a mod, leave it alone.

What are we able to say on this thread?

No discussion of how he died. No jokes. No expressing distaste at jokes.

It seems the only acceptable thing is "Stephen Gately RIP" which makes the thread a book of condolences using pseudonyms / user names.

    No jokes ?

WHY THE FCUK WOULD YOU WANT TO MAKE JOKES 24 HOURS AFTER A 33 YEAR OLD DIED ?

Crazy and terrible.I feel for the family.

Any word on how he died?

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8301627.stm
Irish solicitor Gerald Kean, a spokesman for Gately's family, said: "There's no foul play involved and it's not suicide.
"It's just a tragic accident is what we've been told and we're happy that that is correct information.
"There is nothing untoward, it's not drugs, we don't believe, it's not suicide, it's not murder, it's not a fight. That's what we've been told."
The family hope to have the remains returned to Ireland by the end of the week for the funeral in Dublin, he added.

    1) Nobody knows how he died.

    2) If making jokes about someone who has died is your idea of "fun", then I feel sorry for you. Maybe you should go to a discussion forum that finds that kind of thing funny/acceptable....?

    3) So what if it looks like a book of condolences. What else is there to say at times like this?

I'm sure nobody wants to make jokes about the poor lad but surely the suspicous circumstances surrounding his death are open for discussion?

    What "suspicious circumstances"??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,967 ✭✭✭✭mikemac

Was a very, very talented guy

I don't know a lot of Boyzone songs but I do remember he had a solo with the theme tune from the Aladdin movie. The one with Robin Williams
    Extremely talented person

As for his announcement in 1999, meh, let and let live.
You get one life and he can live it as he wants and anyone can respect that

As for those of you speculating on what happened. Wait a few weeks and it'll be revealed. Until then you know the same as the rest of us

This is the problem with threads such as these. Aside from a young man dying, there are no suspicious circumstances. But you still get children with overactive imaginations trying to make a conspiracy theory out of it.
