Was parking on a main street recently. Spotted a space but woman was standing in it as I drove up. She didnt move I stopped about a foot ahead of her and beckoned her to move. She wouldnt budge and was pointing down the road. This went on for 10-15 secs. Then a car pulls up behind me then goes around me to take the space. I drove on and got another park.

Any opinions on who was right / wrong?

I think a person standing in a spot is no grounds for reserving a public car park.

Also, i think its lousy of the guy to get a woman to jump out and stand there holding a spot for him. I dont think Id expect a woman to do this for me.

I would of driven over her. She has no right to stop you unless she is a Garda or traffic warden. I would think a women would do that.

You should have drove the car at her to scare her out of the way, If you waited for your spot then you deserve it.

No different than holding a seat in MacDonalds or the pub imo and we have all done that.

Get over it and find another space. Else use the bus!

Not necessarily. Just drive right up against her and hold down the horn until she moves. You're entitled to use the horn because she would be a traffic hazard at this point.

I don't think that a person can reserve a space by just standing in it. If you want the space, put your car in it. If you can't get there in time, tough luck.

Beating her to death with a wheelbrace would have taught her a lesson, and a handy supply of bricks in your boot wouldn't have gone amiss - to launch at her grieving husband's widower's car.

    Thanks for the opinions guys

Think the general concensus is that I was in the right.

for 10-15 seconds i'd have to give her the benefit of the doubt.
it doesn't seem very long to have held the spot.
i wouldn't have run her over until at least a minute had passed.

Standing in a parking space does not equal owning it. Keep driving, she will move.

Stop your car in a manner that will ensure that yer man can't park either, lean on the horn. Take out the camera-phone and point it at her.

You're in a deadly game of chicken but I'd say she'll blink first

my disabled cousin gets me to do it when I'm with him and my ma does this all the time when she's picking up my granny so that the old dear doesn't have to haul herself to far on the zimmer..I understand why people get pissed off,I've had a bumper pressing my leg twice! But eh,get ur own spot.
There are many reasons why a person could be reserving a spot but it's certainly not for you.idiots.

Someone will eventually call in the UN, and there will be heavy casualties.

Whichever car gets to the space first should get the space. Simple as that, and there's no need to call anybody names.

That's a good idea,so while you are setting yourself up to reverse in I drive straight in behind you and rob your spot. That's what you want?

Could of solved it with a heavy dose of knacker accent "get ouh the way bfor i run ya ovr ya stupeh bitch!!!".

People are just far to polite to the impolite these days.

look over these posts, the vast majority of them are negative toward a woman reserving a spot for 15 secs for unbeknown reasons, this is what's wrong with us today, thugs.

I would have just parked it across the spot, got out and smiled and said hi to her and walked away around a corner. Then come back a min later and park properly

The Op was only there for 15 seconds, what's to say this woman wasn't there for 2 minutes telling people it was taken? If you can't get to the space in time, then that's your own fault.

And how would you feel if my cousins wheelchair had accidently left a big scrape along your car as he struggled to squeeze in by it?

+1, 100% with that, standing on a parking space. She should get a FCN for paking without a ticket.

Um no? I said that the first car to get to the space should get it. What are you on about?
