I always preferred Stephen's voice to Ronan's. Very shocking news, especially as he was only 33 and had so much to live for. RIP

but i had no respect for him or any of the music he made or the whole type of entertainment he represented. to me he was just part of the machine that took quality musical entertainment down the gutter so far that we have to make do with 15 year old teens showing you their giant house on MTV.
if i was going on holiday and his death could effect my break id be more concerned about that then the feelings of over reactionary former boyzone fans

Are you actually going on holiday to Majorca or are you just trying to point out that people die every day of the week? People know that, but it doesn't mean they're not allowed to show their shock and pay their respects when a young man is unexpectedly taken.

Stephen Gately seemed like an absolute gentleman (from what I'd seen of him in interviews). RIP- all the best to his family, husband and friends.

I don't know how Louis will go on. He must be devastated and a live show is probably the last thing he needs on his mind.

i doubt he will. id imagine they were close. apparently he's in bits (understandably).

RIP to Stephen, thoughts are with the family.

its no consolation but if he fell asleep and never woke up, its the most peaceful way to go.

33 is far too young though.

Gerard Keane(Boyzone solicitor) was interviewed on Newstalk this morning. He was the first person outside of Stephen's family to hear the sad news. According to him, Stephen's death was caused by a straightforward accident. He said that he would prefer not to release details yet but a statement would be issued later.
My sympathies to Stephen's partner and family. They must be devastated. Rest in Peace, Stephen.

    I actually don't know what to say. I can't believe he's gone.
    RIP.

I wonder how Louis will be on the X Factor tonight. Or if he will even do it.

My cousin fell asleep and never woke up. She was 21 so it can happen to pretty much anyone. It's very, very sad new. RIP Stephen. Thoughts and prayers with his family, partner and friends. :(
That's terrible, Jesus! Lord have mercy on her. I'm very sorry to hear that.
I've heard a few times over the years stories about people passing away in their sleep. All seem to've been heard snoring really loudly during the night. Whenever my oh takes a fit of loud snoring I always wake him up.

The comment about an 'accident' could imply that he'd choked on his own vomit. That's a real danger, sleeping on your back when you're really drunk.

Just to correct a bit of information:
He didn't go to bed normally and die in his sleep.

He fell asleep on the couch, after a late night partying. At the very least, it is likely that there was significant drinking involved.

Alcohol poisoning can happen and people choking on their own vomit can happen. These are the most likely causes in my opinion. It hasn't been confirmed, but I'd be surprised if it were anything else.
The "accident" part suggest choking on vomit, but it could be something else of course.

So for anyone worried about going to bed normally and just not waking up, don't worry too much, that is very rare indeed. However, if you are the kind of person to go out and get as hammered as possible and not worry about the consequences, then it could be a wake up call.

Story confirming waking sleeping on couch after partying etc.

Stephen, U were a bright, shining star in life and you will be the same, and more, in death. Thanks for all the entertainment throughout the years. Since I was knee high and had my bedroom and bunk beds full of your posters all the way through to this summer when you dazzled in the O2 with the lads. Only you could have pulled off Beyonce's 'Put A Ring On It' with such energy and enthuasiasm - You could show her a thing or two about the booty shake!! You were a legend in my eyes and now theres a void in my heart. All my kindest thoughts to Andrew and your family and friends for I know they, and all your fans, have lost a genuine sweetheart. Thanks for everything and I hope you rest in peace knowing you made the world smile. :) Lots of Love. Cat XxX

MEGA LOLZ!!! hahaha this made me cry! hahaha

RIP, never met the guy, but sounded like a nice bloke.

I doubt it was "natural causes" or "drink" but that's just my opinion.

The autopsy is not until Tuesday, so I guess it will be announced soon after.

BBC is reporting Louis Walsh will not be appearing on the X factor tonight.

Not surprising really - there's no way he'd be able to do a live show.
