Ice and if he plans on going outside a pair of glasses or a patch to hide it. I had a black eye last year because of some eye surgery and you'd be surprised how many people thought they could start a fight with me just because I had a black eye. The mind boggles...

put some warm water on a cloth and rub it where the bruise is.
the warmth will cause the blood to disperse quicker than it would i the normal course of events.
it normally takes about seven days on its own but rub a couple of times a day and it should go in about 3-4 days.
