Too many jokes, there is place for that and its not here.

Any more in this thread and a warning, infractions and/or ban will happen.

You guys know how it works.

Thank christ for that. Its like a f*cking gimp circus in here when someone famous dies. People falling over themselves, drooling over the unfunny response they've posted hoping to get loads of thanks to mask the fact that theyre simply unfunny twats.

As I said in the other thread, may he RIP. Too young.

Stephen, U were a bright, shining star in life and you will be the same, and more, in death. Thanks for all the entertainment throughout the years. Since I was knee high and had my bedroom and bunk beds full of your posters all the way through to this summer when you dazzled in the O2 with the lads. Only you could have pulled off Beyonce's 'Put A Ring On It' with such energy and enthuasiasm - You could show her a thing or two about the booty shake!! You were a legend in my eyes and now theres a void in my heart. All my kindest thoughts to Andrew and your family and friends for I know they, and all your fans, have lost a genuine sweetheart. Thanks for everything and I hope you rest in peace knowing you made the world smile. :) Lots of Love. Cat XxX

bah, I'd just written a response to a post on the other thread. Anyhow, copy and pasted:

    .

First and foremost, he seemed to be a nice guy.

However on the point of him openly discussing his homosexuality:

    * He joined Boyzone in 1993
    * He didn't 'come out' until 1999 when the band was coming to an end.
    * He was aged 23.
    * He gave his story to a newspaper about being gay and his relationship because they (The Sun) were going to print their own story about it anyway.
    * It was just before he 'went solo'.

The guy was entitled (to attempt) to have his privacy however I wouldn't hold him up as a bastion of being open about his sexuality.

Really sad to hear about Stephen Gately. Thoughts are with his friends and family. It's just horrible to lose someone so suddenly like that.

Boyzone wouldn't have been the same without him. People can say what they like about the group but to be fair to the guy he had genuine talent and that was there to see.

It also saddens me to see how the tabloids can be so interested in having the 'exclusive' on the death of a human being, but I suppose that's just the world we live in - money is more important than respect.

    RIP Stephen.

All true, Rig, but on the other hand ...

... he was under a lot of pressure from the marketing people etc. to keep it hidden, in case it would ricochet in terms of sales.

... it's not the easiest thing for lots of people to come out publicly, let alone for someone like Stephen who knew that it wouldn't just be to his family and friends, but to a public furore.

But you're right, he wasn't exactly the Rosa Parks of gay rights / openness.

Can't say I was ever a Boyzone fan, but he definitely was the one with the most talent. And on the one occasion that I did encounter him (for about 5 minutes in Dublin airport, in the company of a couple of people who recognised him a lot faster than I would have! :pac:) I found him friendly and pleasant.

33 is a hell of a lot too young to be leaving this life anyway, so much living left undone!

Oh man, the taxi driver told me about this tonight. It's sometimes hard to believe how this could happen to someone you would never expect, especially after Boyzone were getting such a good thing going again. Thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Another young famous Irishman dies way too young.

    RIP

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,262 ✭✭✭✭Joey the lips

This is one of those things that you think of "Nahh it's not true he is to young - is it true"

Then you wonder did he take an overdose or something because it makes no sense in your mind that someone so well know can die so young.

The Irony of these things is he will sell more CD's than he ever did. - Go figure the human mind

RIP. He is Irish and we lost another one.

I know people always say 'he was a nice guy' etc., but he really was. While I didn't have him in a regular class, I taught him a couple of times when teachers were out. Always very polite. He was always quick to give us photos, autographs etc. for prizes in the school.
Terrible to think he's with his best mate Stephen so soon. R.I.P.
