Well tell Mrs Voltex that many people have a habit of looking at the ground or at something blank when thinking while talking. It doesn't mean they're scared or intimidated by the person they're talking to.

There is no investigative journalism in Ireland.

I remember on the BBC watching Lenihan get destroyed by an interviewer. You could see he was rattled when asked the difficult question or pushed to answer and not allowed 'spoof' his way out.

We NEED journalists in this country to go for the jugular if we are to get the Gombeens out and expose them as the shysters they are.

This is the problem: people have been letting this individual away with everything under the guise of it being "funny" or Ahern being "funny" or being "one of the lads" or other populist decoration on the deceit, conjobs and abject corruption which this man has presided over and encouraged for over a decade.

Stop laughing. He is not "one of us" and he is not looking out for ordinary people.

Did you not get an invitation to the tent then?

And to say that Brian Cowen is cleaning up Bertie's mess is true, however it's not like Cowen ha nothing to do with it, he was Minister for Finance during the good years! Should he not have seen the Rainy day coming and provided for this?

It's people thinking like you who keep people like him and the rest of the kleptocracy in power.

This is not a joke. Grow up.

+1...this country is in serious trouble ....and we have more or less sorted everthing else out apart from the Public finances...bertie more or less fu*ked that it entirely

So many bitter people on the internet, who'd have thought it

Bertie is being scapegoated, fact of the matter is, if he was still in power, public & consumer confidence would be way higher then it is now. Putting people at ease was his best characteristic

At the moment it is the dear old greens who are keeping them in power, not me.

I am well aware that this is not a joke. Seeing my pay packet steadily decrease over the last number of months has brought the grave economic situation this country is in home.

If I don't laugh about it I will cry. I however do not think Bertie is solely to blame. Everyone got caught up with money in the boom years. We could have had Labour or FG governing us over the last 10 years and we'd still be in this situation.

We wouldn't have any money or less unemployment though would we? So we'd be in the same situation. Ahern would spoof about doing something and lull people into a false sense of security before the NEXT crisis emerges.

I'd prefer my politicians to cut the sh!t and spoof, tell us what we need to do and get on with it.

Ahern could not, cannot and would never be able to do that.
    So did Martin Luther King.

Don't remember Ahern ever making an 'I have a dream speech'

I do remember him telling doom-mongers to go kill themselves. For being right by the way.

I didn't see the interview, but Tubs obviously didn't do what he did to Cowen in his first ever LSS interview. Pity! He should have hammered Ahern. Tubridy is connected politically, so not in the least bit surprised.. at least not as surprised as Cowen was in the way Tubridy used him for his first interview.

Lordy...are you on the same planet :D. just reminded me how brainwashed the Berty diehards really were/are.
Look. In a nutshell he and his government ramped up public spending based on unsustainable tax intakes, largely from property related activity (all borrowed money of course). It helped him win two elections decicively as it meant casg could be thrown at various interest groups pre election.
Remember all those pension increases timed to perfection.

Roll forward to 2009. We are short 20 Billion alone this year thanks to this reckless behaviour. That is Bertie's legacy to me anyhow. Truly appaling leadership.

Yes, the problem with Brian Cowen is he can't create a connection with the people, we don't get the same feeling that he can relate to us as what Bertie gave out.

Bertie gave off this air of confidence, something Cowen unfortunately does not.

Ahern left so many openings for a proper journalist to dismantle his spoof.

Pity it was Tubridy doing the interviewing. Not that the Plank would be any better.:D

"Ah sure this fellas terrible smart, that lad is smarter dan me. I wudden kno bout dat. We had a few jars. Sure I'm only a normal fella."

He knew exactly what he was at and most of the country were happy to lap it up. He knew well he was making a bol1ix of the economy but he knew what to do to keep FF in power and himself at the helm. Gotta respect the brass neck on the man but I'm so glad its only on the Late Late Show we see him now.

Actually, in this respect Kenny would have been in his element. He would have done a far better job.

Can't create a connection with people? What planet are you living on.. do you mean making a connection with property developers? Bertie is a professional con atrist.
