Ask former Tony Blair and GW Bush? A pair-o-ditsy?

There's no answer to that. There's both good and bad in the two of them.

    Chris Morris or Larry David?

    Both great!

If it's sit-coms, the Americans have 40 Jewish writers in a room churning out scripts, whereas English sit-coms have one or two of varying denominations.

    I don't know about Irish sit-coms, because I try to avoid them.:o

    Anything but Irish

British. Alan Partridge, Brass Eye, The Day Today, Big Train, Spaced, Black Books, The Fast Show, Garth Marenghi, Monty Python, Armando Iannuci...

Could probably go on for a while.

Neither can compete with how hilariously unfunny our comedy in general is.

american comedy is for the most part muck.

the american stuff that does be on now that i can think of is:
    everybody loves raymond - muck
    king of queens - muck
big bang theory - i pity the people who like this.
barack obama getting nobel prize - muck

    British comedy -
The day today, only fools and horses, brass eye, alan partridge, big train, peep show and so on. absolute gold.

If it's stand up, English wins hands down.

If it's comedy radio, Americans are WELL funnier.

    Father Ted.

I'm talking RTE output (or lack of), not "imported" home-grown stuff that was bank-rolled somewhere else.

    Pfft

Great bit of comedy made on a shoestring budget!

Plus it captures the Ballina and Swinford mentalities scarily well.

All great shows, but on the flip side America has : Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiams, Trailer Park Boys (Canadian, same thing), Arrested Development, 30 Rock, the Office, Larry Sanders Show.....

Could probably go on for a while there too

English probably. It can be more subtle leaving more to the imagination to see how funny a situation is. American comedy is very much in-your-face obvious gags.

The best example is the Office.

I think British comedy is far funnier.

The U.S has hilarious movies, tv shows, writers and stand up comedians (with standup an art they practically perfected from Pryor onwards). The UK has a few genius comedians and shows but its films are terrible. I think U.S wins but some of my loved shows looking back were probably English though (The Office, Brass Eye), maybe they just stand the test of time better

I go English think there much the better overall.

Only Fools and Horses alone beats anything the Americans have

    EVENFLOW

    Seinfeld was crap.

The Brits have a better sense of humour and produce more hit's than misses, the Americans can make good comedy but produce so much stuff it would be amassing if they didn't produce at least one or two good shows. Most of what they make is rubbish though.

I don't like Seinfeld or Arrested Development. Theyve got that awful cheesey quality, like somebody has rubbed cheese over the camera lens before filming. Or perhaps stored the film in close vicinity to some mature aromatic cheese.

I wouldn't consider a Canadian show to be American. Thats like calling Irish things English just because theyre close together. And we know how much AH hates that.

I have heard good things about the American Office though. Having said that, the British Office was around first, so cant give too much credit to the Americans.

Don't like American humour, always has to be sex related or involving arses. English all the way.

Mr. Hamilton: I'm gonna bust his ass!
Basil Fawlty: Everything's bottoms with you people, isn't it?

I would have no hesitancy in saying it's the best Irish produced comedy avaliable. Father Ted, while pretty good, isn't all that.
