    Hi

I have a HP Pavilion dv 2000 laptop 1.5 Ghz processor 2.00 gb memory, not the most powerful laptop ever but does the job.

I use AVG free and spybot. I scan with AVG about twice a week and use spybot about the same, windows defernder runs one a week also. Am I being far to cautious and are these programs resource hogs?

I'd switch from Windows Defender to something like Malwarebytes or Superantispyware.

Avg and Widows Defender are the only ones that stay resident, not 100% sure of Spybot as I only run it manually.

So you will only notice a slow down when you run the scans of each.

I myself use antivir and malwarebytes and use them on other peoples machines. Find them grand.

I was thinking of disabling windows defender and just using AVG & Spybot.

    Sorry,

The thread wasnt really about anti virus software its was more to do with the software from a resource point of view. By having three programs doing basically the same thing am I wasting what proccessing speed I have?

You should have real-time anti-virus protection running, along with real-time anti-spyware protection if possible. It shouldn't use up much resources.

Windows Defender and Spybot may clash and cause slow down, but AVG with one of those wont

I'll disable Windows Defender so and just use AVG & Spybot so, Cheers for that.
