well im doing a plc in a business park enclosed inside an industrial estate twenty minutes from a tiny village with nothing but a shop,a deli,a garage and a smattering of iddy biddy houses so I dont know what your complaining about! whenever i have a free period the entire time is spent just trying to work out which end of the village is the least dreary! The college itself uses a hallway with a couple of vending machines as a cantine and theres no gym, library or sofas to be seen! As far as I know, there isn't even friggin wireless internet!
So heres some tips from someone who REALLY knows what it means to be bored!:
-Bring a gameboy/DS/phone with games on it/other portable console+several games or one really good game.
-If you're doing a language in college,buy/borrow(from the library)a CD/casette tape of lessons for that language and spend you're free periods listening to it.
-The most simple:Bring a book. Borrow as many books from the library as possible and read them up over the free periods you get. If you have a recommended reading list, read the books from this and get ahead of the game!
-Study(not an option for a PLC student really but I think you 3rd level heads are meant to be doing that).
-Bring a deck of cards/boardgames if theres more than one of you with a free period together.(or just bring a deck of cards when you're alone and teach yourself magic tricks :P)
-MP3 player/Walkman/Radio etc.Listen to some good tunes and chill out.Since you're meant to be exerting so much energy in lectures, you should take the time to just do nothing outside them.
-Catch up with friends from other colleges/in work/different locations on the phone.
-If you're lucky enough to have a gym, use it. Or for the cheaper option,go for a walk/cycle and just enjoy being out and about!

I hate to think what happens when you don't have college... What's it like when you have the whole day free?

It's loads of fun. Promise. :)

We usually descended on the canteen en masse, and enjoyed cups of tea that tasted exactly like mushroom soup...
I dunno man, I think it was just the shrooms...

Didnt do the "pile into the canteen and talk sh!t" routine as I was abit antisocial in college. Probably spent most free classes in computer labs playing Quake2 on the lan with a few other lads in my class:D - God I wish I could get back to those days. Ocasionally afew of us would go to the college bar and get ourselves liquered up so that we'd coast thru the rest of the afternoon in abit of a daze.
If it was coming up to exams, Id study I spose.

Go for a run, it'll clear your head in preparation for all the studying you have to do next.

What kind of maniac actually goes for a run? Might as well take a hammer to your knees and save up for the hip-replacement operations. It'd be less work and slightly more sane. Or go for broke and have a root canal and some dried prunes for breakfast.

A run. What a quaint notion.
