Just curious as to what running shoes everbody uses for various training/ events!

Mizuno Inspire Wave 5 > for everyday road runs.

Asics DS trainer > for road races/ fast runs.

Brooks cross 9 spikes > for track & cross country.

    Inov8 Mudroc > for trail/ mountain runs.

What shoes do you use ..................

At the moment I just have a pair of Asics Kayano 15's, which I wear for everything. Got a new pair ready to break in before the marathon. I'm too broke to have different shoes for different situations.

MIZUNO WAVE INSPIRE 5 - Intended to only use them for runs under 10 miles but they felt good for the half so I'm thinking about using them for the big one.

ASICS KAYANO 14 (2 pairs) - Long runs

SALOMON something or other with Gortex for off road etc.

Just realised this is my 100th post.
I've been on about a year.... not exactly prolific am I !!!

Nike pegasus 25 for everything. Is there something worng with me? :p

Asics 2130 for everything. Going strong, but I slipped a few times last night - and it wasn't just my confidence that was knocked :(
    Asics 1120 before that.
Having bought runners for all sorts of prices, I reckon I was as well off in the cheapest €40 runners as I am now. I don't need all this pronation stuff. So, with that in mind - I keep meaning to get out and see what's what.

    Brooks GTS 9

Have a pair of now retired Nike Pegasus 25, but started to suffer sore heels on long runs. I had a gait analysis done in Amphibian King and the above were recommended. Have had them for around 400km now and love them:)

    Hi everyone,
I'm interested in running but think I will have to start brisk walking first as very unfit!:o

Do you need special runners for walking, and when you eventually start running do you have to buy really expensive runners for them to protect your joints,or are there more affordable options?

Are there other ways of protecting your joints,as that would be the only thing I'd worry about.

Running shoe fetish time  - this is what I have worn so far this year and the total mileage for each shoe.

    Adidas Response - 253 miles
Rbk Premier Road - 332 miles
Rbk Aero Lite - 96 miles
    NB1060A - 362 miles
    NB1060B - 348 miles
    NB700 XC - 24 miles
    NB857 - 174 miles
    NB1061 - 495 miles
    Brooks T5 - 54 miles
    Nike Elite 4 - 40 miles
Nike Zoom LST - 24 miles
Adidas Response Control - 47 miles
    Nike Zoom - 14 miles
    Nike Pegasus - 41 miles

    Unused
    NB 1062
    NB 768
    Adidas Kanadia
Fila ? racer but not comfortable.

When I used to run before I ran religiously in the same runner as prescribed by an unnamed shop and was constantly injured, a physio friend of my told me to buy 3 pairs of different brands and rotate, I think I've taken that to the extreme, but no real problems of note this time around.
Also I buy ahead and always at sales prices, never been in a position where I need a pair today.

And Mrs A thinks I have a problem, I'll have to point her here to show how sane I am...

Asics 2140s for pretty much everything
Asics Hyperspeed 3 for short races (I'd wear up to a half)

I do have a pair of Asics 1030s (? I think) that are a bit lighter that I got cheap on hols and wear occasionally and an old but not worn out pair of 2130s that I rotate in and out if teh main shoes are wet or whatever.

And 4 or 5 pairs of old trainers (2110 and up) that I wear around the house or into town but not for running.

Dumb question - do you *need* lots of different types of trainer?

Dumb question - do you *need* lots of different types of trainer?

    Excellent question!

Personally I always have two pairs in constant rotation for training and another one for racing.

I've read several times that shoes can take longer than 24 to decompress after a run; I therefore avoid wearing the same shoes twice in a row. I also tend to rotate pairs of different brands (e.g. 1 Asics, 1 Nike). With that setup I have not been injured in years, despite plenty of people bleating on how my high mileage will put me off the road anytime now.

brooks dyad 5's after being a die hard asics kayano wearer for years!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,623 ✭✭✭dna_leri

Asics 1130 @ 509 miles - in retirement, only used for grass now.
    Asics 1130 @ 358 miles - regular use
Adidas Supernova Glide @ 114 miles - mostly used for speed work
    Asics spikes - track races

I never pay full price so always looking for something new but don't think I could get to 10+ shoes. Where do you keep them?

I now feel like I'm missing a nerdish element to my running, as I only run in one pair of shoes! Brooks Adrenaline GTS (currently the 8s, as I picked up a few end-of-stock pairs cheaply a few months back).

Have used Brooks Adrenaline GTS exclusively for about 3 years.

Up until recently I haven't even rotated pairs. I wore one pair until it died, then wore a new pair. Only a few weeks back have I started doing recovery runs in an older pair, and longer/faster workouts in a newer pair.
