Buying Mcafee internet security

Hi

Just got new wireless installed and am thinking of getting a new security suite to help protect wireless network-would mcafee in this regard help?

or even kaspersky internet security? what about norton 2010?

there are plenty of free options that do a much better job than those. use AVG, as its a simple solution.

I would suggest Avast free as it has the best real-time protection I've found. Also no scheduled scans or updates...it's all done automatically in real-time.
You can use it with the windows firewall, works fine. Your modem already has a hardware firewall installed and if you use a router, it also has one.
If you absolutely feel you need a software firewall, Comodo Pro is also free and works great.

The other security suites you mentioned will BOG down your PC, eating up lots of resources.

I've found AVG 8.x to be rather heavy on resources, especially CPU usage. AVG 7.5 was perfectly fine in its day and I used it for years.

I'm not sure there's any anti-virus anymore that has zero impact on performance, well maybe NOD32 but I never tried it. Avast doesn't seem to play well with my machine but it may just be my Windows install - think I'm due a reformat anyway. I'm using Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 right now but I have several components disabled to reduce the load.

Im using NOD32 (ESET) myself and its using... 48.2mb's of ram. not bad.
