Those German cars are nice, but why are they all on Euro-plates? they are gross......

German classic cars dont carry old style registrations or plates, they are issued with modern style regs/plates....which are officially issued, so you cant fit old style plates even if you wanted too.

I just saw (no pic) a modern looking Land Rover Defender on 70 D xxx plates. Presumably a new body on a 1970 chassis?

A very tax effective trick about 10 or more years ago. The Range Rover and Discovery use the same chassis and it is a relatively straight forward bolt off / bolt on job though a lot were fitted with disco engines / transmissions and axels. You paid benefit in kind (tax) on the price of your vehicle when new and the money spent on the rebuild was repairs and was tax deductable.

i did not know such things were done in Ireland. i have met several dealers from Holland who scoured the uk for old chassis. apparently there is an annually recurring tax on the value of cars there. After one of them realised I was not a spy he admitted that just the chassis plate and the log book would suffice.

obviously such a thing only happens in Holland and would never happen in Ireland...

One of these days when I Have time to type it ouy slowly I want to bring up the subject of re bodying an Irish car.

have read of the rules in the UK about so doing(usually to get the reg no off it).

has it been discussed on here?

At those prices I've got 50k worth of scrap sitting in the field next to my house, happy days!! Seriously though that Princess has a timber frame and if it's that bad outside you can imagine how bad it is underneath. I'd say 350 euros would be a lot for it to be honest.

I heard ahern's had all these old cars in a damp old shed..

The lotus that they sold few weeks back went on fire when they first tried to get it going one of the mechanic's spent 3 days rewiring it..P.o.s.

They also sold a very rusty beetle for €300..

Things are supposed to be very quiet down there,The only thing thats keeping them going is the testing centre..

only one pic showed up the first time :o

    the orange one.

i passed it tons of times while driving the tour bus, but never got a chance to stop and have a proper look.
it's on the cork road about 6 or 7 miles from Waterford on the right hand side. i remember seeing €1999 on the windscreen.

i think it's near (or in) a Jeep ,chrysler dealer.

Yes..they are rare now due to the usual 1970s jap rust issues and the fact they were as disposable as toilet paper,i know of this one,iv yet to see another roadworthy original irish one like mine though,if anyone knows of one get snapping!:)

Wow, an original Dublin Reg Peugeot 404 convertible. I didnt think any of them were sold here. IZO must be a mid 60s number. I saw one in Paris a week ago, white with black top.
