    hwy gang

    hope yer all well.

i bought a fine 19' tft monitor for 35e there the other day, and i have it connected to my macbook.

i want to turn off the macbook's display altogether when i have this tft monitor connected.

is there any way of doing this, other than just dimming the display on teh macbook, i am looking for a way of completely turning the display off, but i also do not want to use insomnia, or have to shut the lid of the laptop.

    Thanks very much
    Ed

the only way i've found to do this is close the macbook screen, which puts the computer to sleep. then move the mouse or press a key keys to awake the computer, it should come on the external monitor. then open the lid and it should stay off, thats the way it works with mine

Big_moe is right - that's the official way to do it, called "closed clamshell mode" and should work on all current Mac laptops:

Once the built-in display is shut off, you can actually open the lid and it won't activate again, until you disconnect the external display or put your Mac back into sleep and then wake it up with the lid open.

If you just want a quick fix, I just turn the brightness down to the last
