Pretty crappy show from your taxi driver, OP, but I find it bizarre to see how many suggestions there are here that back in The Good Old Days this would never have happened.

The OP was given shoddy treatment by a cowboy taxi driver. It's not the first story I've heard to this effect lately, and I have the utmost sympathy; but it's still a much rarer occurrence than it used to be, back when taxi drivers decided where they wanted to go and where they were willing to bring you. You and the dozen other people they'd gather up first.

Wasn't, isn't my taxi driver, he or she is your taxi driver as this is the standard that the public seem to be happy with. Not referring to the old days, I'm referring to the days of less than 4 years ago. I feel every sympathy for op in Galway but as usual the full time professionals of an industry, that you obviously don't rate, once again must "take it on the chin" for the mistakes of an out of control Government, which has proven so inept in so many ways in so many other areas as well. You wanted it, now you have it, so deal with it. It will get worse.

That guy was bang out of order. I live in Castlebar and if I go to Westport I can't get a Westport taxi driver to take me home because they make more money on local runs so they won't leave the town. I'd end up having to stay the night in the town or ring a guy in Castlebar to drive out there and pick me up its a joke what taxi drivers do.

"Fare"ness is in the eye of the beholder but you can be sure that the the fulltime professional taxi drivers of Ireland have not and will not get a "fare" deal on boards.ie

Ya because it'a always her fault  It's attitudes like yours that prevent some women from reporting that they've been attacked.

Attitudes like mine? If anything more people should have an outlook like mine. Point out to me where I said it was her own fault if she was assaulted? You might want to read my post and get a proper understanding of it before you go shouting your mouth off like that. I said she is an adult and she is the only one responsible for her. She had lots of other options.

If the op was, touch wood, sexually assaulted and her story was "the taxi man wouldn't bring me home" there would be uproar... yet he didn't commit a crime. A string of unfortunate events would have lead to the crime. The taxi mans name would have been tarnished a lot more than deserved.

It's easy to point the finger and blame people, even if they had no input into the crime at all.

I still think I have enough reason to give out. And where else but here?

You do, and I would too.
I'm not blaming him if anything had happened to me, but what annoys me is that I TRIED to do the safe thing and take a taxi, and then get refused. I was prepared to spend a tenner, but obviously 10 euros are not good enough for 3 minutes work in this day and age.

Good, you would be one of the few people to NOT blame him. He still should have taken you home though.

I bet ya the country would be up in arms, pitch forks at the ready, if this had happend to a girl who subsequentially got assaulted or worse. They'd be very very quick to blame that taxi driver for neglecting his 'duty' for lack of a better word.

Yea, there would be a bunch of angry, ignorant fools chasing after the taxi man, while the sex offender is out happily raping other women...

I will say this though, you had other options, lots of other options. You make it out that this man was the only person capable of taking you home.
