Is that the value that you place on the data on your HDD?

I heard an interesting... well, I guess this can be classed as a rumour... from the Apple On Campus guys at Fresher's Weekend in Halls today. They say that the root of Snow Leopards problems with ISS is that the Antivirus software they use is incompatible with Snow Leopard, and that ISS are removing or altering the Antivirus requirement of the system scan.

It seems a little odd though... I mean, removing Antivirus altogether? I know that the software actually does **** all (especially on Macs) but still...

Just moved into campus this afternoon. I had to install fecking McAfee. I reinstalled Leopard before arriving.

Now that I've registered with the NAC and run that Bradford Dissolvable Agent [which, as an aside, always makes me think I have to make protein standard curves at some stage], can I delete/disable the antivirus? It's slowing my **** down like whoah.

Also, if I upgrade to Snow Leopard [again ], will everything still work?

Campus as in CAMPUS? Jammy sod.

Yes, you can delete McAfee and install Snow Leopard. BUT be warned, ISS wlll, every now and again (maybe once a term, and sometimes over holidays) make you reregister, which requires running the scan. Fortunately, Snow Leopard should be compatible with whatever it is ISS think it's incompatible with by the middle of next month, so all you have to worry about is McAfee. I'd keep the installer, just in case.

Quick question: Do you have to have completed registration before setting the ball rolling with ISS and the NAC?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,488 ✭✭✭mathew

Snow Leopard is now supported by ISS:
    Supported Apple Mac Operating Systems:
OS X versions 10.4 (Tiger), 10.5 (Leopard), 10.6 (Snow Leopard) - earlier OS versions are not supported.
    http://isservices.tcd.ie/network/nac_requirements.php

And they say Win7 will be available from mid-October.

Hooray! Arrival Day (the 18th for people in Halls anyway) would have been nice, but mid-fresher's week isn't terrible. Just a shame.

To clarify, they say that Windows 7 will be RELEASED in mid-October. Support will be added pending testing following the release.

I'd update the OP but I don't seem to be able to? Does editing on Boards have a time limit?

Snow Leopard is now go in college. No news as to Windows 7 yet, ISS's stance remains that they will BEGIN testing after the retail launch. If their performance with Snow Leopard is anything to go by, Windows 7 will probably be supported by mid November.

    (Original post follows)

I've been using 7 since I moved up here; just spoof your MAC address!

Got windows 7 yesterday and it works a treat, no problems with external hardware or software compatability and the NAC works fine on it.
Near to the quality of snow leopard but doesn't quite reach it.
The new user interface and taskbar are great and load/boot times are much faster. All going smoothly then

I call bullshi* on ISS's statement. I think it's simply a case of Broadford networks pulling the finger out and adding Windows 7 support to their products. I'd love to know if other Unis that have Broadford Networks doing this NAC crap, have windows 7 support yet...

Considering ResHack, wonder if it would work...
