Pricewise in the paper could be showing a small loss over a 3 month period, but can easily cancel that out with 20/1 and 16/1 winners in the space of a week, thats the way he does it. Pw extra is easier for tom segal though, he has the choice of so many races in the day, where as with pricewise tips in the paper he has to decide on his tips the night before with factors such as ground conditions and draw bias not being 100% certain while also having to focus on the bigger races of the day

Because I tracked all his bets for a 3 month period about 2 years ago and he showed a loss. These were not PWE though.

All tipsters have form, just like horses, so I wouldn't get too caught up in it now, just because he has had a good week.

I can see your point and it is true they do tend to have winning streaks and losing streaks but there is no doubt that Segal knows more about racing than any of them. If there is anyone better I would love to know who it is. A friend of mine subscribed to Heny Rix (who used to be Pricewise) a few years ago and Henry went 6 weeks without a winner but then gave a 50/1 winner Master Robbie. It doesnt suit every gambler because you need the decipline to only have 2 or 3 bets a week and a 40 or 50 point bank to protect against varience.

Minor miracle getting 8/1 from Hills after 11-40. It wasnt even 8/1 on betfair at that time.

Apologies if this is already covered in the thread, but tldr:o

Could someone please give me a summary of the difference between Pricewise and Pricewise extra?
Is there a subscription for PWE?
Anyone know of anywhere you can get the pricewise stats for the year?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,968 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Pricewise is the paper tips (anyone got them for today?) and Extra are the RP website selections that are posted around midday.

The Tom Segals picks are at the major meets on the weekend or in big weekday events.

I don't have any stats for the year.

I dont think that is correct Mike. My understanding is that Pricewise is written by Tom Segal. When he has selections, the index at the front of the paper says Pricewise and gives the page. The daily tips in the paper are never listed in the index as Pricewise unless they are given by Tom Segal.

Oddly Mark Winstanley also picked Ottoman Empire. He put it up when it won it's maiden last month.

Other is 2:20 Leic Quaker Parrot. 2pts win.

Are these two Mark Winstanleys tips and not Pricewise tips?

Only 6 days to the end of the month and they have claimed a profit every month in the last 6 I think. It will be interesting to see if they start going for shorter prices.

Gonna have to change the name of this thread. Still Tom Segal will have a few picks tomorrow from Ascot I imagine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,396 ✭✭✭boccy23

Be wary Mike. Tom has stated on numerous occasions that he hates the new Ascot and his record would back this up.

I didnt know that Boccy. I must get the paper tomorrow to see what he says about it. I am glad I am not following PWE. I wonder at the logic of it. I mean if they advise a horse at 14/1, can it still be value at 8/1? I noticed that in quite a few of the races they tip in the favourite wins and since there is invariably a flood of money for their selection, does that mean that the favourite becomes the value bet in the race because it must be a better price that it would have been if the money hadnt come for the PWE horse..
