This will probably cause a bit of a stir but I'd like opinions on pros and cons of the A4 B7 Vs the BMW 3 Series E90. I have a budget of about AUD 30,000 to AUD 35,000 to buy one of these in Australia. I'm buying something practical to bring home because I'm not inclined to throw away a fortune on a V8 that I'll never sell…

I've been told that Auto A4s will blow their Transmission Control Units from time to time at a cost of about EUR 1000 to replace.

Family members have had bad experiences with BMW 3 Series and the independent mechanic used by a few of my family reckons they cause heaps of trouble.

The A4 is better looking and has a nicer quality interior. The 3 Series is a newer car that is better to drive with the advantage of RWD and probably has the better range of engines.
