DVB-T Tuner in Ireland?

    Hi All

    If I get a dvd recorder with DVB-T tuner will I be able to pick up channels in Ireland? I am connected to a satelitte at the moment.

    ( the dvbt tuner is probably mpeg 2 (UK) not mpeg4 as is needed here)

    Moving to the terrestrial forum as it isn't a sat question.

    DVB-T stands for Digital Video Broadcast Terrestrial. That means digital TV that comes in over an aerial and has nothing to do with satellites. Satellite uses either DVB-S or DVB-S2.

    DVB-T typically uses one of two different video codecs, MPEG2, normally used in the UK or the newer MPEG4 being used in Ireland.

    More then likely the DVD Recorder uses MPEG2 and therefore won't work in Ireland (well you might pick up some UK transmissions along the border regions, etc.).

    Of course you could connect the DVD recorder to yous sat box and record what is currently being shown, but that isn't really very good compared to something like Sky+.
