My mother bought me a set of books ; 'Where do babies come from?' 'What are periods?' etc...

I tried to tear them up, cringing with embarrassement. Then I ran into my bathroom and locked the door. When she tried to explain the concept of sex to me from outside the door, I started singing at the top of my lungs to avoid hearing it.

... That was only last week...

I think that children will find out on the street and in school and now with the internet, online.
I never was pulled aside and told anything and thanks be to god I wasn't.
Something tells me that the image of my mother, or worse, my father, pulling me
aside to discuss erect penis's would make me rather embarrassed.

Am I weird to think that parents who take their sons aside to discuss intimate
sex matters are a little weird?

I do believe that girls need a little more advice and mother to daughter talk
would be quite normal and comfortable, but father to son just is a little much.

Boys find out on the street and from their mates...

All fathers need to tell their sons is that there's a specific place to put it when it's like that, so just stop doing that to the cat.

As a result of having extremely catholic parents, my formal sex education consisted of my mam asking me at 12 "do you know about sex" and me saying "eh.....yeah" as i fled the room more embarrased than i thought possible.

I always wondered (and still do) how other people found out.

For me, when i was 8 the big boys on the road told me. I think they felt sorry for me coz i was going around talking about "sex" and saying stuff that was completely wrong :D.

So how/when did you find out about sex?

Was it your parents, friends, older kids, did you see/hear something you weren't supposed to :D?

I'd be interested in seeing how many boardsies' parents were completley open and honest about it and explained it to them at a very young age.

Exact same problem for me. on the road. Whats even funnier is i though the womens vigina was up higher about half way between the belly buton and where it is now. I also though if you done it to hard you got stuck like dogs do.

Up until I was about 9 years old I didn't realize that mickey was the same thing as penis. It was a case of amalgamation of information from 4 or 5 lads and the purchase of an English dictionary that was our eureka moment.

my older brother told me when i was 10 by showing me music videos and saying what everything was and then sex education in 6th class thought me the rest

I was 6 when one of the older girls on the street about 11 told me.
My parents went mad at the girl when I came home explaining it all lol!
She used to get us to play "mammy&daddy lions"....
 yea,you get the picture lol

I read about it in a book I found at home...must have been some kind of encyclopedia but I am not quite sure.

Not long after that we had our first proper sex talk in primary school...in 5th class. Our teacher was the new school principal and clearly quite progressive. She put us all into small groups (boys and girls together), and gave us some stuff to read and discuss between ourselves. Then she came around to each group and answered any questions we had. Not a single laugh from anyone and all taken very seriously. Not bad for a crappy little primary school in the arse end of the countryside.

Yeah I thought that for a long while....mainly because I heard "Oh God! Oh God! Oh God! Oh God! Oh God! Oh God"....etc coming from my parent bedroom when I was young.
Did you ever remember to congratulate your father on his technique? :pac: ... not to mention getting a few tips ... >_>

You are, in my personal opinion anyway.

That said, it can be easier if an older brother / cousin / family friend takes on the job, especially with boys. A lot depends on the relationship between parent and son though ... if it's always been open with questions taken as a matter of course then this issue will simply be taken as a matter of routine.

Was hanging out with two classmates of mine (named Anthony and Declan) at school when I was nine or ten:

Declan: Lads, do you know how you have sex?

Anthony and me: Yeah, sure we do.

Declan: What is it so Anthony?

    Anthony: Dick up the fanny.

    Declan: Do you know <Me>?

Me: Yup, dick up the fanny.

    Declan: Yeah, alright.

    That's how I was educated. Sexually. ;)

    I was nine.

I was reading an encyclopaedia in my room. Came across the page on reproduction.

5 minutes later, I ran downstairs:

"MA IS THAT WHAT SEX IS?!"

Only last week I sat down with my twelve year old daughter and had a long and deep discussion about the facts of life.

Some of the stuff she told me made my eyes water.

I can't really remember, I was too young. I do rememebr finding a condom at a young age in primary school. Mother found it in my coat. She asked where did it come from, I said I did not know, what was it? She said she did not know.
We left it at that and never mentioned it again. :)

Still in a state of blissful ignorance, then? :pac:
