Does anyone remember the rumours that were circulating when the news first broke? I can remember three:
    • Another plane is still missing and flying around, ready to strike at it's target like a Roll-Royce powered lightning bolt.
    • There are many abandoned strips all over the US in which the hijackers could stash their stolen and fucking massive Boeings for terrorising at a later date.
    • WORLD WAR III HAS JUST STARTED OMG!!!!!1!!!

Ah, to have a transcript of my 13 year-old self discussing international politics with my classmates.

    Lol. 911 times 1,000... Yes that's right... 911,000.

In a warehouse on the northside, by the time the story had been passed on from the single colour TV in the security hut, to the back of the warehouse, the president was dead and the Whitehouse was on fire, about nine planes involved..

    at home

got up, went downstairs and put on teletext, flicked to the news page to see a plane had hit one of the towers. thought "ahah what a clown of a pilot that was" before looking at the football news. then i decided to put on sky news to see the carnage, about 25 seconds before the second plane hit live

    In a B&B in Galway.

Up checking out accomadation for college.
They were talking about the first plane as an accident.......on a sunny clear morning :confused:/ Fair enough, I went along with that
And mentioned there was a similar crash on another building in the 1950's, a bomber plane I believe and that was an accident

    Saw the second plane live

Working in England for an insurance company who had branch offices over three floors in Tower 2. One of the older guys who was a total loop most of the time started waffling about some plane crashing into a building and most of us thought he was talking about some computer game (big gamer...even at work!). He called us all over to the BBC news site and then we went into the conference room and watched it on the big screen and stayed until the late evening.

In the kitchen making a sandwich. I had been listening to the news on RTE, and didnt bother changing when that prat Joe Duffy came on to do Liveline. So at some stage he mentioned that a plane had hit the World Trade Center, so I thought I'd take a gander at Sky News to see if they were covering it. They had a live feed going. 3 or 4 minutes later the second plane hit.

Its bizarre how everybody can remember vividly where they were.

I had taken the day off work to do some painting in the house. Had the TV on, rang my parents to tell them.

Had the day off as well.
Came home and switched on the news and saw the reports of the first plane crashing into the towers.
Watched then as the 2nd plane came in and hit the 2nd tower..
It's like my parents generation remember where they were for the Moon Landing...for me 9/11 is the equivalent.

In bed - mother woke me up telling me that New York had been nuked. No BS.

I got up, and the second plane hit. Didn't know wtf was going on.

I had booked the day off work, I was at home on the net and watching Fox News at the time.

FOX News wasn't broadcasting here at the time. It only started a few months after it.

I was in 'town' (Dublin City) shopping for things for my first year in college.

I remember my friend thinking it was going to be the start of WW3 and being scared.

almost the same as above, me and a couple of mates where at a water park in cyprus, I remember it was all cheesy dance tunes all day then a DJ cut in to say that a plane had crashed into the world trade centre, then um and ar'ed a bit then announced that another plane had crashed into the other world trade centre.

I remember thinking it was all a sick kind of joke. Nothing else was announced while we where at the water park and it wasn't until I went to the shop later that day and the shop keeper pointed at the TV and it became quite clear what had happend.

Sitting in my kitchen at home with my mother. I had just come back from the airport after an accident in Magaluf and was on crutches feeling sorry for myself. My brother in law rang us to turn on the TV. Saw the second plane crash. Was like watching a movie. Can't believe it's 8 years ago now.

working in a bar in Liverpool, someone ran in and said put on Sky News, within 10 minutes the pub was packed with people, everyone seemed in a daze just staring at the tv, felt very surreal

I was at work in Letterkenny, popped into a bar for a few on the way home to watch the live feed. Harrowing scenes. Anyone see that "102 minutes that shook America" on C4 last night? Shocking footage taken by people in NYC.

Yeah I hadn't seen any of that footage before. Sunday night's documentary was sad too, recordings of peoples' calls to their loved ones.

I was working in Hasbro(MB Games) at the time going about my business like a regular Willy Wonka when the news broke.

The noise of all the factory machines meant that news stories got mixed up. I remember one person telling me aliens had landed.
There were also rumours that the white house had been destroyed and how the American's had shot loads of hijacked planes out of the sky destined for other landmarks.
