    I'm thinking of buying a Toyota MR2

Generally in this country an MRS is a 2nd hand import, usually from Japan.

In France they're all MRS as MR2 is pronounced M-R-deux, very close to merde, the French word for sh1t.

If you're thinking of buying an MR2 will hold its value better.

Technically the MRS is the 3rd gen MR2 (ie MR2 Mk3 or MR Spyder)

The Spyder showed up around 2001, it has similar principles to both the Mk1 & Mk2 MR2 but is considered by some to be a whole ground up redesign.

The MK1 is available in an NA and Supercharged model, the MK2 NA and Turbo, the MK3 only came in NA but the performance is quite sprightly for a small car.

The MK2 seems to be the most popular for aftermarket parts, however many of these are now becoming rare/unavailable (e.g. Tom's kit, Greddy Power Extreme exhaust etc) so maybe there is still some growth to come in aftermarket for the MK3?

All are very reliable and come from a time when Toyota was passionate about cars and not handing out shopping trolleys with racing stripes.

The 3rd gen MR2 was called the MR-S in Japan. Still sold as the MR2 in UK and Irl.
