MP3s from PC to iPhone 3GS possible

    I've got a factory sim free iPhone 3GS but I'm not very au fait with how to put music on there without going through iTunes.

    Does all music I put on there have to come from iTunes?

    Or is it possible to put MP3s I have saved from CDs on my laptop onto the iPhone somehow?

    iTunes is probably the easiest way tbh. Though there are ways of doing it otherwise.

    Someone who knows the ins and outs will be along shortly no doubt:)

    You should remember that iTunes is more than just the iTunes store, it's a media management program. It'll let you add music regardless of where it came from into your library and then move it onto your iPhone/iPod for you. It'll also rip those cd's of yours and download the artwork for you too. It doesn't just manage music that you buy through iTunes, is what I'm trying to say here.

    You probably do have to use iTunes software, but you don't have to buy music if you don't want to.
    If you want to get music off your CDs onto the iPhone, the easiest way to to just use iTunes to rip music off CDs and it puts it into your iTunes library. Then you create a new playlist, put your music in it, and tell iTunes to sync that playlist to your iPhone whenever you do a sync (in iTunes software).
    Or if you have mp3s on your harddrive, just tell iTunes to add those files (or the folder) to the iTunes library and then add to your playlist as above.
    There's probably a more detailed guide on the web somewhere I'm sure!!

    I had all my music on my pc for downloading onto my old mp3 player. When I activated my new iPhone, iTunes transferred all this stored music into iTunes and then sync'ed it with my phone. All very straight forward and no problems as iTunes did all the work.

    ok thanks...I'm not very au fait with iTunes either as you can probably tell as I'm an iPhone noobie. But I'll do a bit of trial and error and see how I get on.
