i was just listening to kevin barry on youtube and i remember that when the hunger trikes were on i promised myself i would join the IRA to fight for Ireland when I was 16. but when I was 15 the IRA mortar bombed the memorial service in enniskilen. now i wonder if i was wrong to hate the IRA after all?

So did anyone here once love then hate the IRA? Should we have killed for Ireland regardless? I love Ireland but I didin't believe hat I shluld do things I knew were evul 4 ilrelNd ? was that weak? becoz the english have no problem being evil.

someone has to do the dirty work so was the IRA campaign justified even if they bad things?

Put it simple:

The IRA is the Irish Republican Army. Not the IRA you see today. They're dirty gangsters. Michael Collins and his men battled with the worst and scummiest country and took most of their counties back.

These are the people that fought for our rights we have today, and took down some dirty as*holes along with them!

haha, i havent in a while but that is quite a famous quote, i didnt remember it from that but good spot by you

i did recognise a few quotes from it when i watched a documentary on robert mcnamara recently though, as in the game quoted him, obviously

I like to think of myself as patriotic, I personally think Michael Collins is a hugely important Irish figure (and a figure that I admire greatly) but I'd also rather not get shot at (for country or for an ideal).

I've always found it interesting that I accepted the travesties that the Irish committed during the war of Independence, but at the same time condemn other countries for doing likewise. At the end of the day; we committed acts of terrorism and possibly invented the modern version of it (I'm not a history buff if I'm wrong on this point!)

My personal beliefs are: Murder is unjustifiable except in defence of ones own life or in defence of someone else's. However I also believe that no person should have to bow to a foreign ruler simply because an army forces us to do so (I'm great at sitting the fence, right?).

I can't deny that I agree with the original cause of the IRA but I don't agree with their methods and never will, they lost their way a long, long time ago...

To call yourself 'weak' for not agreeing with the current tactics on the "Real IRA" is silly, they have stopped fighting a war of 'patriotic ideals' and instead fought a war of 'ignorace and blind religious hatred' for years now, in my opinion at least... They resemble nothing of their original intent.

Tbh... you have to look at the situation that people where in then and even how Catholics were treated in the north till only in recent years,
Im sure we would think differently if you and I were treated like **** by foriegn rule.

Its all too easy to say "Lol IRA scum" "Would i **** fight for my country" when you have never needed too. The IRA today are nothing but gangsters (Although there have been some vigilanty groups going round up here in the North sorting out druggies and the like... cant really fault them as the PSNI are useless...) but those that fought for our country in times of trouble and hardship, i am proud of.
