Where do I go to get a learner permit? (Dublin)

I have the theory test cert (yay!), I have the eye report, I have the passport photographs, but where do I actually go to get the learner permit? I've had a look on Dublin city counil's website and they say to apply by post, but they want a passport or birth cert and I'm not sending either of these off by post. Is there a physical office I can go to, and if so where is it?
This is beginning to feel like some sort of initiation rite!

Not sure about this one, but hte one in Naas closes at 3pm every day, so get in before then.

Motor Taxation Offices doesn't list Dublin  :D but it says " if applying to Dublin Motor Tax Office the cheque should be made payable to Dublin City Council" so I assume it does...

Thanks folks. The 'tax' part threw me off the scent, but it seems that the tax office is indeed the place to go for permits. I vote for a name change: "The Motor Tax and Permit Office"!

The tax office is beside Smithfield square in case you're unfamiliar with it. As someone else mentioned, (like the one in Naas) it does close at 3pm and is usually pretty busy so give yourself a bit of spare time to get your application handed in! :)

There is a motor tax office in Ballymun as well!if your are out the northside, its queues are definitely not as bad as the one in town, save you some time:D
