Tuning peg too sensitive

    Hi,

The lower E string on my guitar (yamaha pacifica) is quite difficult to tune because the tuning peg is way too sensitive. The pitch of the string moves fat roo much even when I turn the peg as little as I can.

Is there an easy way to get this fixed? I don't know that much about guitar maintenance since I'm just a beginner. Is it worth taking the guitar to a shop to get looked at?

It could be that the E string is getting caught in the nut. Is there a ping sound every so often when your tuning? If not a new machinehead is probably the way to go, most shops should have ones to suit it.

    Nope, no ping sound.
I checked the intonation and it's a bit off. Maybe I'll fix that first and see if it helps.

Probably the tuners you have are just a very low ratio. You might want to try a new set with a higher ratio.

Yeah, exactly. A higher ratio tuner would be better.
