Hey, I'm starting Creative Digital Media this September and I have a few questions about equipment. I was wondering if I should buy a laptop since this is computer heavy coarse? I know the college would have there own computers but would a laptop make things easier?

I'd recommend you get a Macbook for this course. Everything on the course is mac based. Having my own mac last year really really helped. I could do most of my project work at home.

Generally speaking, having your own laptop is useful so you don't have to reply on the college computers.

I didn't know it was all Mac based. I worked in the college for two years and never once saw an Apple Mac. :o

Anyway, if you are purchasing an Apple Mac, remember that Apple give student discounts.

Its odd that any course would be done using mostly macs. Even with a discount the cheapest mac is €890. That would annoy me.

if ur getting a laptop u defo need to get a macbook anything else simply wont do. most of the work u will be doing will be done on mac software so saved files wouldnt work on a windows laptop.

room e202 is mac heaven in itb

Macs are traditionally used for all that creative, arty-farty stuff :), so it makes a lot of sense to use them in the course.

Remember, you don't need to purchase a Mac to do the course, or any course for that matter. It just makes life easier for you.

Wow, how E202 has changed since I was there.

Makes life a hell of a lot easier but the lab is usually open a lot of the time so it's really not essential.

Apparently they were setting a new Mac lab up over the summer to accommodate this year's first years. Fingers crossed.

It's amazing. Got the 20 new iMac's, 4 older iMac's, 20 Nikon D60 DSLR camera's, 20 DV cam's, and it's own mac server in that room now. High Security on it i tell ya. Apparently getting a green screen this year.

Can't wait to start now. :D
