How often does the timing belt need to be replaced?

Someone I know is looking at buying a second hand Opel Astra 1.4 2001 and they're wondering how often the timing belt needs to be replaced? Any ideas? Thanks.

The usual is around/before every 60K miles

It's calculated time/milage whichever comes first, consult vehicle handbook or website if in doubt about its history have it changed.
