Record video data on hard disk for viewing at a time of your chosing (time shifting your viewing). SKy call it Sky+ (which seems well received), UPC digital+ (which has mixed reviews).

i thought it was recording onto a dvd disc

I should have been clearer ... actually I have found out that that spelling as disc is more usually associated with optical media (CD, DVD, ...) whereas spelling as disk is more associated with hard drive. So I was inadvertently leading towards DVD disc.

Anyway I meant hard drive recording.

Just had a look at the UPC site and it is "Under Maintenance".

Hopefully we will be able to order HD with our corn flakes...:p

    I noticed that.

Seems updated now if you bypass the home page, but holy cow, the installation fee for existing customers is something else. €110!!!

Channel list as predicted, no Sky Sports HD & multiroom as default apparently. Hmmm. Bundling the Sky Sports channels is a bit from leftfield as well.

Order done, seems like an issue with their site at the moment though, upgrading from standard stb to hd+ seems to go through as a normal dvr order.
Will call them tomorrow anyway to confirm its HD+ not DVR+ I want.

Prob just a script error on the site itself.
The HD box wont have HD follow through, only one HDMI output on that.

Anyways if its PS3 your concerned about why not buy a real HD console (360) and not a poser / over priced / dying piece of ..ah hem....

    back on topic.
Install for offline orders are 90eur and online orders are 60.

The HD channels are not appealing at all IMO, not enough to sign up for DVR and a new box anyway, if that is the case.

The €7.50 is certainly much better than Sky's €15

I think UPC is missing a package around the €40/month mark. Something like last week's TV Select package (was €32) + new HD offerings, or the TV Deal with Sky Sports stripped out.

Monthly fee of Sky+HD for a bunch of HD and Entertainment channels is around €40.

Depends if you want to pay €20-30 for Sky Sports - not everyone wants to pay that premium.

THE x360 doesn't play BD, the PS3 does.

True but the x360 isn't losing it's parent company millions. ;):D

Well it's here and I'm happy but €60 for a novelity and a few HD channels I'd rarely watch (BBC & C4 being the exception, thought I don't watch them that much anymore). I think I'll hold off until the install price comes down.

So am I reading this (http://www.upc.ie/television/) right, if I upgrade from the basic digital by paying the €60 installation and €27.50 a month all I get is BBC HD, if I want the other HD channels I have to upgrade to the sports pack as well and pay ~€70 ?

True but the x360 isn't losing it's parent company millions.
It may be loosing it's parent company millions, but oddly it still manages to play BD movies in fantastic quality, stream movies in HD and music from my PC, not to mention games, all while sitting quietly by the TV never breaking down. Funny that.

I was told that as an existing customer I would have to pay €90 for installation/connection and I told then that I was not happy with that. They transferred me to someone else and they offered it to me for €45.

Is this available over MMDS? I presume not... :-(

Also, it doesn't list Sky Sports or Movies as being available in HD...

Stupidly it's the other way around .. customers like me that have been with them for years have to pay €60, whereas new customers get the installation for free!

Baldercok. You can get their Digital Max package and HD+ for €41. Or if that breaks your €40 sweet spot by too much, you can have their Digital Select and HD+ for €34.50 a month.

Just because they don't have 2000 advertised packages, covering every combination of service, doesn't mean they don't offer it.

The HD box looks mank. WHY OH WHY do companies have to build these devices to the size of the old VCR's of years ago. There is NO NEED PEOPLE!!!!

And I'll let the xbot fanboism slide this time, pauly, just coz it's you :p

If I cancel my contract, wait a week or two, and then start a new contract (perhaps in my partner's name), do I have to pay the €60 connection fee? I wonder...

€60 just to connect a box! Not much of a choice of channels either. Give them a few months and they will have you pestered with phone calls and letters. They might just drop there price then.
I wonder the fact that it's a HD box will the picture be upscaled on the SD channels? I would have it going through an AVR before my tv.

So because of my 4 years+ of loyal custom, I am being penalised to the tune of €60, whereas any new customer gets it for free!!! So if I cancel my account and sign up as a new customer I would get the installation for free?? Makes perfect sense in the little world we call UPC. I finally thought they were going places?? Silly me.

I only just upgraded to digital, put it in 3 rooms in total, no way am I paying another 60 quid on top of that! That's a joke.

I just rang and ordered. Their website is WOEFULLY misleading as far as packages are concerned.

    1. YES : The HD packages are tiered where as this leads one to believe that you get them all regardless.
    2. NO : Sky sports is not compulsory. You can get Digital Max with HD+ in ONE room and nothing else for €41 URL="http://www.upc.ie/deals/made_to_measure/"]Source[/URL

It does seem that they are seriously pushing Sky Sports on the back of HD. Whould it be too far of a stretch to say that they would probably be intentionally misleading customers into thinking that they would be getting better quality sports packages with HD box?

They'll probably get you for a disconnection / cancellation fee :D

No point in upscaling a highly compressed image. To a degree, shoite in shoite out. Their SD was ALWAYS bad.

I would hope not. I'm an Analog customer at present, so no digi box to return or nuffink.

Thanks, it's definitely not very clear alright.
