Hi folks, Just back from the nct centre and apparently my car needs a new rear shock... it failed the suspension test with 49% imbalance, What i dont get is what do they mean by a new shock? Is it just the damper or the spring or the bushes or what is it?

Anyone know how much it costs to remedy this problem? the cars only worth like 500quid

It would prob be the damper and you would have to replace both sides unfortunately

what type of car is it? i replaced rear shocks on my old car for less than €50. bought them off ebay and takes less than an hour to install. rear ones need very few tools to install.

Shock absorbers. You will need to replace both as repacing one would most likely lead to an imbalance still. Depending on car, price could be anything from 100 to ?

its a 94 nissan sunny. so its only worth about €2.... i wouldnt mind trying it myself ive had i usually do all my own work on it. but i thought id need spring compress's to remove the shocks? Ive loads of diy and carpentry tools but. I dont have any specialist mechanics tools is the other problem.

I need to put a gaitor on the steering rack, In my manual it says i need a ball joint seperator... Is there anything else i could use to do this?

Thanks for all the replies folks! great help
