You could try N. Conlon and Sons Ltd. of Rathdangan. I think their number is 045 524 345.

Thanks, but I didn't want to use a garage number plate, if at all possible.

Maybe if you ring Conlan's and ask them who they buy their plates from?

You may be able to remove their ad with the aid of a suitable solvent.

I should have mentioned that I'm looking for one in silver.

I've looked on e-bay, and I can't find any number plate surrounds in silver that flip up like my own one.

Can you tell me what sort of solvent would do the job?

    Thanks.

Thanks, good website, but their frames are a bit more expensive and they are not the hinged type.

Using any solvent on a plastic plate holder would make a complete mess of it.

Genuinely curious: why do people use number plate holders?

I think the garage ones can be visually busy and so sometimes spoil the look of the car, and I don't like doing free advertising, so I understand what the OP is at. I don't get why you'd want to replace it with another holder though (I take the things off and screw the plates on with coloured end caps).

Edit: maybe because the screws could be in the wrong place and would c0ck up the plate text?

The holders screw into the factory mounting points, so you don't end up putting holes in your bootlid or bumper. This means you don't need to fart around with putting holes into your reg plates (handy if they're pressed metal ones), and also means the plates look slightly cleaner.

I usually stick the plates on. 5 minute job with nice clean lines, no screws, holes or tacky plate surrounds.

What's the attraction in the "flip up ability"?

Simple to swap the plates over for NCT's and the like, plus no drilling through plates...also makes them quite easy to steal:pac:

I ordered a set of silver plate holders on Monday from the link on ebay.

I thought about just fixing the number plates with screws, but the bootlid on the e46 is already pre-drilled, with the fixing points in the centre of the number plate thereby messing up the text on the plate. As kdevitt pointed out, a number plate holder allows you to secure the plate without seeing the screws, which gives it a much cleaner look imo.

I agree this also a good idea and gives the best look to a number plate with clean lines, but I was a bit worried if I stuck on the plates:

    (1) the adhesive pads would damage the paintwork
    (2) over time, the plates might come loose and fall off, particularly if I was driving on the motorway for example.

Easy to change for photos etc. Also easy to remove when you want to clean behind the number plate. When I took off the original plates a few weeks ago, there was quite a bit of mould and gunk behind the back plate, but I got most of it off.
