Once you restore, all previous Cydia data will be deleted. There is a Cydia app for backup, but most people having issues needing a restore are better off starting with a clean slate according to the Dev Team.

In terms of precautions, if you have paid for any apps in Cydia, you could make a copy of any licence codes to allow you reinstall foc if you paid for them originally.
