absolute business suicide on behalf of setanta to charge that amount.... ok fair enough they might be relying on consumer inertia and not many cancelling but if espn are charging 12euro as reported then setanta will be in big trouble.

Where did you hear about ESPN charging €12?
ESPN are charging GB£12 for non-sky sports subscribers (GB£9 if you are a Sky Sports subscriber) in the UK.
I haven't seen details for Sky in Ireland yet or any word if it will be carried on UPC.

    Thanks!!

Yep 9.99 would have been fine for the EPL @ 3pm for me, connection charge & the 16.99 price may be the kick to the mouth that Setanta have coming to them

There is no way I'd lower myself to the current state of Internet streams for the EPL.

Yeah they really are putting the nail in the coffin.

    Question:-

Do they plan to remove Setanta Ireland from the UPC's basic package or something?

€18 for 1 channel which has most of the stuff on other channels or on Setanta Ireland.

Not that it's any of your business I do not subscribe to any pay tv. Predictable and overhyped? That's why you watch them all online? What streams do you have that come even close to broadcast quality? That may be good enough for you but not everyone. You seem to always forget this when you verbally masturbate over the wonders and joys of FTA television.

Anyone know why Setanta Sports 1 is being advertised on the website? Was it not part of UK arm which folded?

The Irish Setanta Sports 1 was slightly different to the UK version and is still going, although (in common with Setanta Ireland) it isn't showing much at the moment other than rugby league and AFL.

Thanks for that. Am I right in saying that it is not possible now ti subscribe to Setanta if you live outside of the island of Ireland? If this is so then viewers in e.g. Scotland will not be able to see any home ML rugby games as Setanta ireland now have exclusive rights to these as I posted on another thread? Is this correct?

I would assume that Setanta lost ML rights in Scotland and that like SPL they will be resold for Scottish rights holders. However did STV or BBC ever show ML games?

Its correct for viewers in Scotland, yes. Setanta will have relinquished their Scottish rights but no-one else has taken them up. BBC Wales and S4C have Magners League rights in Wales, though and satellite viewers will be able to watch this, although they will of course be Welsh rather than Scottish focused.

According to this article Setanta still hold the rights to matches in Scotland as well as Ireland - http://www.newsletter.co.uk/sport/RUGBY-Setanta-Ireland-confirms-deal.5490434.jp
So it looks like Scottish viewers will not be able to see their teams play at home unlike Irish/Welsh viewers even though some of these matches will be covered live! Surely this is something that either Setanta or Magners League organisers need to address.

    That says
    Article wrote:
And the News Letter now understands that Setanta Ireland will be covering games in Ireland and Scotland involving clubs from both countries when the Magners League rugby season kicks-off in September.

It doesn't say that Setanta Ireland holds the rights for Scotland.

You're right as it reads. However my interpretation (and I maybe totally wrong) is that Setanta still has the rights for Scotland for three reasons:
    (i) Fact that Ireland and Scotland are mentioned together and not separately suggests rights for both are still with Setanta.
(ii) Article doesn't mention Wales in the article and Setanta have shown matches in Wales whose rights are held by BBC2W/S4C. So my view is that Setanta will continue to show matches in Wales where the rights are not theirs but they can still show the matches and will continue to hold rights for matches in Ireland and Scotland - It is these rights rather than just the showing of matches I think the article is making reference to.
(iii) If Setanta doesn't have rights for Scotland then who has? We have heard of no separate deal with e.g. BBC Alba/STV.
Sorry if the above looks and sounds a bit convoluted but I remain convinced that Setanta has an exclusive deal with ML to show live games in both Ireland and Scotland and if you're an Irish viewer that's fine as you can watch your team at home live on TV but if you happen to live in Scotland then it's bad luck, for you will not be able to subscribe to Setanta Ireland. I hope I'm wrong though!

Setanta can own all the rights in the world, but the don't currently have a channel that broadcasts in either Scotland or Wales. My guess is that they'll hand the Scottish rights (which the probably still own) back to the Magners League or Sell them onto BBC Scotland, etc.

How can a 3rd party own Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano and not be a football club..... it Happens.
In theory you can own rights and not have the mechanism to broadcast them, however I'd be surprised if there wasn't some clause in the contract that makes them broadcast x many Scottish games, etc. So Setanta will have to offload the Scottish rights.

Setanta Hibernian a new company, with no links to the old company. Bar their owners, buildings, loans and other sundries.
