I think they are registered in Luxembourg for some reason.

Setanta Hibernian a new company, with no links to the old company. Bar their owners, buildings, loans and other sundries.

That does not show me where it states Setanta Ireland holds the Magners League rights for Scotland.

As I posted earlier the article in the News Letter refers to Setanta covering games in Scotland as well as Ireland. While you could argue that this may refer just to the covering of the games and not holding the rights to them as is the case with Setanta last season covering games in Wales which S4C/BBC2W had the rights to, the fact that no deal has been announced with any other broadcaster for games in Scotland leads me to the view that the strong likelihood is that Setanta have the rights to show games for both Scotland and Ireland. If this is the case viewers in Scotland have got a very raw deal compared to their counterparts in Wales and Scotland. As I said earlier I hope I'm wrong and I have e mailed Setanta asking them to clarify the situation.

I would like to reaffirm the fact that Setanta Hibernia or Hibernian Setanta is the new name of the company currently trading as Setanta Ireland and Setanta 1.

I assume that the Liquidators of Setanta Britain hold the rights to numerous sporting fixtures and will sell on those rights as part of the liquidation process.

Setantas' rights ceased when they went into liquidation in the vast majority of cases and now Sky,ESPN & Eurosport are cherry picking the best bits at knock down prices

Only if they hadn't paid up the fees, If Setanta's rights payments were up to date for Magners league they may still own them and the liquidators may be in charge of those rights.

    Setanta's or Setantas'?

Some more info. here - http://blogs.rnw.nl/medianetwork/setanta-sports-to-have-new-service-targeted-to-ireland-and-uk
Read esp. 4th/5th paragraphs down. Does this mean Setanta will have viewers and subscribers outside of Ireland?

Setanta Ireland is the channel being referred to there, by the looks of it, and has since 2007 or thereabouts been available (with blackouts as apporpiate, of course) in the UK, so no change there. Setanta Ireland was still on the UK EPG as of the end of June but I'm not sure if it still is, but if it is, they could lose the slot when Setanta GB's administrator sells off the EPG slots.

Meanwhile, ESPN has got rights to the Bundesliga, Erdevisie, Major League Soccer, and the Portugese and Russian top flights...

Interesting read and throws up so many questions.
Will Setanta Sports be available FTA, it cites SS1 as the "subscription channel"
Will it be FTA in the UK, etc, etc!!!

If it will be FTA in the UK then that kills off their subscriber base here.

Have e mailed ML re Setanta's coverage of matches in Scotland. Still awaiting a reply.

    Here is Setanta's reply -

    Dear Howard,
    Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately, Setanta Sports have ceased trading in Great Britain for all Satellite and Freeview customers. In light of this, we are unable to provide you with any details at this time. For further information, please see the Setanta Sports website for a list of available FAQ's.

I can confirm that our live Magners League coverage is continuing in Northern Ireland. As a result of the above, however, this is not available in Scotland. I apologise that we could not be of any further assistance.

    Yours sincerely,
    Mark Mulholland

    Latest statement from ML -

    "Magners League TV Fixtures Confirmed
    30 July 2009, 10:05 am
    By Sean Bridger
After discussion with their broadcast partners, BBC Wales, S4C and Setanta Sports, Celtic Rugby can now release the confirmed dates and kick-off times for Magners League matches up until the New Year.
With 43 out of 50 fixtures in the first ten rounds of Magners League games televised live, there will be unparalleled coverage of the 2009/10 tournament.

BBC Wales Scrum V programme returns to its regular Friday evening slot with their opening match at Cardiff Blues’ new home ground, Cardiff City Stadium, where Edinburgh are the visitors.

Welsh language channel S4C is the place to find Magners League Rugby on Saturday evenings with their opening broadcast featuring the European Champions, Leinster, as they take on the Scarlets at Parc y Scarlets.

And Irish broadcaster Setanta Sports will feature action from Ireland and/or Scotland each weekend, spread over Friday/Saturday/Sunday timeslots.

Magners League champions, Munster, have also confirmed the venues for their home matches this season – their campaign will again be split between two grounds with Musgrave Park hosting three matches - Newport Gwent Dragons, Scarlets and Edinburgh - and Thomond Park Stadium staging the remaining fixtures.

With a minimum of four out of five Magners League games broadcast live every weekend, fans will have a great opportunity to follow their favourite team, home or away.

BBC TWO Wales is available in Wales on Freeview channel 2, digital satellite (Sky and Freesat) 102, and Virgin 102. Outside Wales BBC TWO Wales is available on digital satellite on channel 991.

S4C is available in Wales on Sky 104, Freeview 4, Virgin 167, Freesat 104 and on Sky 134 and Freesat 120 in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

In Ireland Magners League matches will be broadcast live on Setanta Ireland and Setanta Sports 1. Setanta Ireland is available on Sky (423) and UPC (105 / 401). Setanta Sports 1 is available on Sky (424) and UPC (406) in Ireland.

More information of how Magners League matches will be broadcast in Scotland will be announced in due course. "

BTW the ML website on its fixtures page lists Setanta Ireland as broadcaster of ML matches including those in Scotland (no reference there to Setanta Sports) but this may change.

Can we keep this for the football please. Setanta can be discussed over in its own thread, only two clicks away!

Apologies - I'm obsessed with Setanta and the Magners League I'm afraid!

Has anyone received the documentation promised by setanta yet?
They said it would include channel updates and price arrangements.

The season is starting very soon and if it doesn't come in the next week I'm pulling the lug.
