*First of all, the 5 Series is a good bit bigger than the 3 Series and A4.
*Both the 3 and 5 Series will be vastly better to drive than the equivalent Audi's.
*Reliability on both would be similar - good but not perfect.
*Both have variable service schedules, so should require maintenance at similar intervals. Although many BMW engines have the advantage of being chain driven as far as I know, so there should be no timing belt replacement to worry about on them.
*Resale value is similar for both brands, depending on model. Traditionally in Ireland though, the bigger the engine, the less value it is likely to hold.
*Not so sure about this, but I'd say both would be pricey enough for genuine parts.
*If you are looking at the likes of the E60 5 Series and E90 3 Series, i.e. the newer generations, then the Audi will obviously be the better looking car.
